Canadian release delay

    Has anyone heard about a Canadian release delay due to legislation in Quebec? My dealer just told me that Toyota wants to see if the legislation passes before releasing (or deciding to release) the Prime in Canada?!

    Interesting...my dealer just told me that....but then again neither he nor the dealership know anything about the Prime! Figures crossed...as i'm #1 on their list to order.

    TCI will usually hand out the info about 1 month prior to launch to facilitate ordering/pre-ordering. Pricing won't be available until the day it's launched. (or the day before)

    oh really?! wow! i'm hoping for around $35k...fully loaded and i'll be trading in my 2010 Prius

    That's from what I can remember when I was waiting for my 2010.

    (Plus you can see that toyota.ca typically doesn't release the new webpage until the day of launch).

    I've gotten print outs from the dealer's computers prior to launch for features/specs and packages for pre-ordering purposes but again, it's not on the system until closer to the launch date. You can check with your dealer, say, late February or early March and see if anything shows up.

    I'm hoping for around $35k as well.

    So from the owners manual, the US Prime doesn't have battery heater? And the Canadian one does as does the US ones that go to Alaska? So I wonder if that will affect the price a bit.

    They all have a battery heater. The Canadian and Alaskan ones are able to keep running it to maintain temperature for longer.

    The legislation has passed but they still have not announced the amount of the credits and penalties for the car manufacturers... That's what Toyota is waiting for I think to announce the price and availability of the Prius Prime.

    Ok so I was just at the Montreal Auto Show today and what I heard from the attendant is that they expect the Prius Prime to be available in Canada around the month of May at 40-44k$... I don't trust this information 100% but please don't kill the messenger :D

    That is more expensive than the Volt ($38,000). Granted the base Volt doesn't have the equivalent of TSS-P. The Volt does have a larger rebate in provinces where rebates exist.

    It's also $5,000 more than the 2015 PiP. Interesting.

    Let's step back a bit and work those quoted estimates re cost in Canada. $40,000 Canadian works out to $30,296 US at todays exchange rate (07:45 MST). $44,000 works out to $33,325.60 US. Last I heard, Toyota Japan charges the local Toyota distributors (Toyota Canada in this case) based on the US dollar. It can get complicated due to dual conversions (both the US $ vs yen and the Canadian $ vs the US $ fluctuate, and do so semi-independently), but still, not out of line.
    In Quebec, where the show was at the time, you will be getting a "rebate" from the Province. In Ontario you can get the biggest rebate in Canada. In B.C. not quite so nice, and in Alberta, at least until Spring, no rebate (there is discussion re the "Carbon Tax" that there -may- be a rebate, though I'm not holding my breath - turned blue the last time I did). There is currently no Federal "rebate" in Canada that I'm aware of.

    Too late now but the show booth persons can be from Toyota Canada -and- local dealers. Which one you talked to would influence the accuracy of that "estimate".

    Damn... if the advance will really be 44 000$ in Canada, this is a big deal breaker for me :(

    I speculated 33 000$ for the base price and 40 000 for the full load...
