@Mendel Leisk should know. He was the one that "crossed the streams" on his battery.

Is there power available in this garage ?
If so, connecting a battery tender type smart charger would be a MUCH better option.......for several reasons.

Then......as mentioned, it is not "necessary" to disconnect the battery at all but it would be good to make sure it is fully charged.
The cold will NOT do it any damage as long as the charge stays high enough.

I have power but not a smart charger. I will just activate my regular charger for 1/2 hour a week. i'm sure it will be fine.

Procuring a 3~4 amp smart charger would be: smart. Will charge it right, can be left in indefinitely.

Most tender type smart chargers are rated at 2 amps or a bit less.

If you are going to go to that much trouble, leave it connected for 3-4 hours just to be sure.

Looks to be a little more than 3rd gen. It is a physically bigger battery:

(page 732, at least in my pdf)

I've got a couple of older CTEK's, the 3300 and 4.3, they're 3.3 and 4.3 amps respectively, IIRC. Looking at their current North American page I see a spread of 3.8, 5.0 and 7.0. All of these can be left on indefinitely. They go through a charge session, then trickle charge.

You can't always believe what you read........regardless of where it comes from.

"11.0 to 12.4" indicating "half charged" is just ridiculous.

i disagree. but there is more to battery health than voltage.

that being said, when mine gets to 12.4, i'll be replacing it. 7 or 8 years is a more than reasonable 12v life.

I do not know, if you're reading 11.0 for example, I would think you're deep doodoo. This graph:

    From this site:

The 12volt Side of Life (Part 1)

    is an old standby.

sorry, please see my edit. i don't know if these generic charts apply to the toyota battery. for instance, a new fully charged gen 3 battery is 13+ volts.

It will allow .xlsx, if you can do a save-as. Older versions of excel won't do that though. Are you windows, 7.0 or later? Try snipping tool, just start typing it in start menu field, it'll find it. You can take screen shot of your spreadsheet, and it's automatically in clipboard, <ctrl> V will paste it, in the advanced prius chat editor. Just position cursor where you want it.

Also, some things work on initial posting, but not when editing a post. I cannot edit to add an image, for instance.
