First month with 2017 Prius Prime premium model added $69.00 to my current electric bill. It equals to about $2.30 per day. Granted, I did not charge it everyday. In December average MPG is 80.4 and Currently in January MPG is 72. If anyone is curious.

I did not really keep track. A drive to work and back. I can do on almost one charge about two miles beyond what it will do on one change.

Well month to month it varies. Last electric bill was .11 per kwh

My landlord charges me $15.00/mo. Since I'm in a 15 story apartment the electricity is commercial so my landlord pays .9 cents/KW.

OP, if you are using one full charge once a day, that works out to about 200 kWh a month extra. At 11 cents a kWh the bill should have increased about $22 from the EV.

Actually, you want my landlord. He has agreed to let me install PV. I am going to pay about two cents a kWh over the lifetime of the array.

If I move he'll keep my labor invested in the installation and the electrician bill will be a sunk cost. I'll take my panels and inverter to the new place, or sell him the array at cost.

We often see two battery capacities: (1) maximum electrical capacity, and (2) operational capacity with the high and low buffers taken away.
    • $69 / $.11 ~= 627 kWh # bill and kWh rate
    • 627 kWh / 25 kWh / 100 mi ~= 2,500 mi # EPA 25 kWh / 100 mi
    • 627 kWh / 8.8 kWh ~= 71 charge sessions (+2 per day?)
The number of charge sessions seems a little high ... not impossible. This is the problem of trying to use a variable, monthly bill as a meter for a specific load.

I'm going to suggest you might consider an electrical power meter (i.e., kill-a-watt or equivalent) for the outlet used to charge the car. This will provide a more accurate view of the electrical costs isolated from normal variations. If you do, get one that 'holds the metrics' versus one like the kill-a-watt that loses it in a power outage.

I am using an instrumented, Emotorwerks EVSE that records each charge session. They exist but cost hundreds of dollars. Still, I like to know.

    GOOD LUCK!

Well you buy the meter for me then. I am not your science project.

The Prime's usable charge is about 6.3 kWh (at the wall) not 8.8, so ~100 charge sessions?
(EPA: 33.7/133*25=6.33 kWh @ the wall)

The cost increase seems rather high - you imply that you didn't charge more than once a day, and sometimes not every day? If that's the case I would think your costs for charging the Prime would be about a third of what your increase shows. Does your electric bill kWh USAGE vary widely from month to month for other reasons?

I'm guessing the OP is attributing the entire increase to the Prime which does not seem to match up.
I am guessing colder weather, more days in the billing month, or other factors explain most of the increase.

At 11 cents/kWh the Prime should only increase his bill $15-$20/month.

Yep. Or perhaps his entire bill was $69 ? Or he paid a lot more than 11 cents a kWh for the car charging.

Only thing for certain is that an error or mis-attribution is lurking somewhere.

Well I am not going to bother sharing on this lame forum. Since people want to pick everything apart like a scientist and there obviously just regular people. What a joke. Of course there are other factors to consider since I did not have a meter running off the one outlet it runs off. People need to stop picking everything apart.

Did you know a battery need to have a maintenance charge even just sitting. So it still takes power. That's why they sell trickle chargers. So if a battery is not in use it will loose a charge. So what is the loss of a battery of 8.8 kWh loose per day sitting?
