Adjust dash readout overall mileage reading?

Last summer I had some work done on 2013 v (not sure which vendor or service it was) - but shortly thereafter I realize that dash readout for mileage (for 45K+ miles of driving) was 46.3mpg where as for the 45K+ miles it had been rock solid at 43.6 (about 2.8% lower than my spreadsheet calculated miles using total miles driven and total gallons used). So, something that someone did during one of those service appts bumped the overall mpg from 43.6 to 46.3. I didn't do anything about it until recently I thought maybe a dealer could hook it up to a computer and reset the mpg back to the 43.6mpg that it had been for 45K+ miles. The one service rep I spoke with said 'no.' So far I haven't sought another opinion until now. Soooo ... anyone have any similar experience? Anyone know if it can be reset as I suggest?

It can be "reset" back to 0 so that the calculation starts over......but it can't be "set" to a figure that you want.
It probably was reset during the service and you just didn't notice right away.

All the dash displays are exaggerated. And: one 12 volt disconnect, they're gone. To paraphrase Robert Zimmerman: I wouldn't pay it any mind.

The car doesn't control the mpg, the driver's driving habits do. It is a result, not a control setting.

That being said, any Prius is going to get lower mileage in colder weather, and your area has been unusually cold recently.

Thanks for response. I didn’t notice it for a few weeks. One of the services may have reset it to “0” but I don’t know why they would have done that. The counter to that is that it was done in Spokane and normal driving in and around Spokane in late summer usually gets 45-48mpg on the dashboard (not actual calculation). However, there was only about 600-800 miles around-town in Spokane area. Then we headed south for winter fully (320 #s for the 2 or us +/- 300 #s cargo) loaded and 2500 miles, including mountains in ID, WY and CO and freeway driving at 75-80mph. Those dash board averages per tank were in the high 30s and low 40s for mpg. Then in the Phoenix area for about the next 1500 miles it was AC time and the dashboard mpg was in the low 40s. Only in the last 1000 miles has dash mileage hit 43-45 mpg. So, it still doesn’t add up to any way the dashboard mpg could be 46.3. Do you know if I can I reset my overall mpg (now at 56K+) to “0” and start all over again ... or do I have to have a dealer to it?

A battery disconnect is possible answer although I don't recall service that would have required that. I know about dash verses calculated mpg. I keep a spreadsheet comparing both I know the difference to 1/10th of a mpg (44.8 for overall calculated average and 46.4 for average of dashboard mpg).

See above explanation of driving history - we don't like cold weather so we head south for winters.

Also, it changed in a matter of a couple weeks after being constant for 10s of 1000s of miles of driving - it was reset somehow or is stuck on an unexplainable number.

a lot of 'mechanics' reset all there trip meters after a simple oil change. it isn't at all unusual. some people tape a message to the steering wheel or display, 'DO NOT RESET TRIP METERS'.

I just tried holding the reset button down and other than mpg at odos A and B, the other 2 options wouldn’t reset.

FWIW on our 2016 Prius v Three I can go into Apps > Eco and clear the fuel consumption history and start over. Perhaps that is what happened. AFAIK there is no way to go back and input a new value. As a test I cleared mine and the new fuel consumption history is now much higher than what was displayed.

My 2013 v is level 2 and doesn't have the bell/whistle yours does. But, this suggests that someone cleared the display and the new figure indeed jumped from 43 something to over 46 something.

no question. toyota need to add lifetime mpg like an odometer. the sad part is, all the info you're looking for is inside the 'black box', but it's proprietary.

No I don't think they need to do that AT ALL.
IF.....something goes wrong that makes your average go WAY down before you get it fixed......then it might stay low for a LONG time.
That might make selling the car a problem.
