Top speed in EV mode

It has been confirmed on other threads already.

In fact, we have even found out how long the electricity will last at those high speeds. The answer is not very. Firing up the engine and saving the electricity for later can be the better choice.

 

The 22 miles can't be covered fully by EV if you drive that fast. My experience is 17 miles.

 

Would it not be good you making a good test drive?

I drove 65 in Ev mode on my test drive with no problems and with almost no Ev range left (maybe 2 miles or so).

 

Short drive at 70 mph with the electric heater running for me.

 

I am not sure if ICE will engage when you floor the pedal but if you do it gently, I haven't seen ICE kicks in before 81MPH, according to my experience.

 

I hit 86 mph in pure electric. I had one passenger and some luggage in. Battery was completely charged, climate/radio/heated seats turned off.

I also went 104 mph in it before it governed. I was in power mode while I did this.

 

You mean more than 104 mph is not possible?
Regular Prius can do 112 mph,in that case the rumours are sadly true .
They reduced the top speed in HV-Mode !
That won't go down very well here in Germany...

 

Anyone driving a Prius at 104MPH has missed the point.

 

Of course I don't constantly drive 104 mph in my prius,but that's not the point here !
We are talking of a 4,64 m long mid sized sedan and even a small Toyota Yaris can go faster !
German Press will make fun of it !
We go very different speeds on our highways compared to the US and going 100 mph isn't exactly considered fast over here !

I typically drive 65 in the 75 zones to get better mileage. That's what the Prius is about. If you're sad that you can't go faster than 104, you've entirely missed the point of the vehicle. If the Germans make fun of it for that reason, who cares? I don't need the press to decide what I like and what I don't like and I couldn't care less what anyone else thinks of the things I like (the auto press makes fun of the Prius here because they are dumb motor heads). The only people who do are to insecure in themselves to be considered adults and, yes, that's most people.

 

Actual top speed in EV mode does face limits based upon how much charge is in the battery.

Speed governors are electronic now, and the manufacturer can change it for different markets.

 

Yes I know but I doubt they will !
The US 2017 Prius is rated at 112 mph top speed just as the European version is,so why would they limit the Prime ?
I guess it' has been done to protect the power train because of the extra weight of the Prime !
Will be strange going 100 mph and knowing I have almost reached the limit .
It's allways nice to know that my gen. 3 still has some reserves at that point !
It's not really the point if you really go as fast as 112 mph,but a car of the size of a Prime should be able to do so !
Most cars of comparable size in Germany go up to 124 mph and more,so 104 is somewhat limited and is normaly a top speed which is expected to be found with very small,low powered cars !

 

I share your opinion and practice the same with my 2 gen Prius. But I can understand civicdriver06's opinion. It is mainstream.

What he also is implementing, is that the speed limitation to 100 MPH will affect sales. I'm a Belgian (look at my avatar, a famous professor) living in Germany for more then 10 years now, and people here just want to be able to drive at least 120 MPH, even if they do it rarely.

There is a > 100 pages thread on Priusfreunde.de about yes or no introducing a 85 MPH limit on the German "Autobahn". Several contributors were absolutely against it. Speed is Germany's holy cow...
