how do we determine what safety features are just theatre, and which ones actually help, if we can't trust the government?

I'm definitely partial to safety glass. Especially in the absence of seat belts.

The only thing I like about that car, is the gas mileage. That's about it. The rest of it is totally strange and weird and unnecessarily complicated.

I'm only strange, when I walk around outside at midnight in nothing but my boxer shorts, and howl at the moon.

It's 26 in Jacksonville Florida at 7am. Winter comes and goes around here. My gen2 doesn't seem to care. I was in NW Washington in December and saw lots of Priii with no issues.

Yup, 10% for cold, 10% wintergas, 10% short trips.
    Assuming
    50 mpg summer
    Ballpark results
45 mpg winter gas 20+ mile trips
    40 mpg cold 10-20 miles
35 mpg short trips in winter, < 10 miles

I'm in Canadian prairies. In summer I average 5lt/100km, in winter 6.1lt/100km. It's still way better than most vehicles.

You might want to clarify your Profile location. For most people in the US CA == California.
In the rest of the world, CA == Canada. You guys even have the .ca Internet domain.

There is a big difference for me here in Florida. In winter the weather is perfect so no A/C or heat. Most of the year we have to run the air conditioning full blast which really drains the battery and effects mileage. I lose about 8mpg but I guess it's nothing compared to the real cold climates.

that is why I like it between 70° and 80° not hot enough for ac, not cold enough for heat.
