Yes. The major difference is that TSS-P is now standard on all 2017 models (previously, it was standard on Touring models and optional on Three/Four models)

TSS-P is Toyota Safety Sense - P. It includes

    • All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (i.e. works down to 0mph)
    • Pre-Collision System w/ Pedestrian Detection
    • Lane Departure Alert w/ Steering Assist
    • Automatic High Beam

With TSS-P standard, I think the 2017 is better. In order to get TSS-P and a spare tire I would have needed to get a 2016 Trim 3 with the ATP package. I got those features on a 2017 Trim 2.

FYI ECO mode = sluggishness. Normal feels similar to a normal car though.

With the mileage you drive, I would encourage you to make a spreadsheet and figure out the cost of owning the vehicle for the expected life. The prius in past years have been extremely reliable, but myself included am concerned about the longevity of the battery. I live in Florida and heat kills hybrid batteries. My brothers 08 camry battery went out at 111k but he doesn't garage his vehicle and I am doing it daily. 1st gen Camry hybrids also seem to have a bunch of bad battery packs in the beginning years. I priced a battery pack and his was 4K at a dealership 30 miles away from home, but traded it instead.

I sold my very reliable 14 year old toyota matrix with 333k miles on it so I am definitely concerned about reliability. Another thing to consider, Definitely look at the gas mileage on the interstate because at high speeds 80+ MPH you will definately be running around ~40 MPG.

By the way, I am loving my Prius and don't miss my old stick 03 matrix at all.

I would say that this is a No Lose situation as either vehicle is a good choice.
As I say to anyone considering a Prius...get one, if you really, really want one.

It was never an issue for me. BUT...it has been an issue for others..
So my warning already given by others, is make sure you are OK with the seats.

Some peoples Prius ownership experience has been hampered, even prematurely ended by being incompatible with The Prius Seats.

I don't know how you get a real viable test...unless you rent a Prius with the same seats you plan to purchase...
And/Or ask the dealership if you can sit in a Prius for an hour and 1/2 while you read a book.

You might want to be sure the Prius you test is the same Trim level as what you are interested in purchasing. The seats in the Four are different than the Two.

I will say that my gen II seats are very uncomfortable on long trips without lumbar doesn't matter cloth or leather. That's my main if not only complaint about ours.

over thanksgiving I drove over 2700 miles... And, let me tell you the seats did just Fine. Now MPG was a bit lower driving 75 mph with a 30+ side wind....:ROFLMAO: I sure like that HUD and night driving... Eyes always on the road. The power is just fine passing semi's in Texas back roads

Only thing I really really hate about my 2016 Prius is no spare tire.... I know... all it takes is money to correct that issue :sneaky:... AND , there is a link here just how to do it ... (y)

You want to talk about going from one car to Prius... try going from a Fifth generation Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme to a First Gen Prius (My02). 3.4L V6 to the 1.5 in the Prius... and that gear shiftier WOW ...

First time at a traffic light the ICE stops... I reach for the Key to start the ICE again.....

I had MY04 (Gen2) for 10 years, only had to change 12v battery/Tires, and struts ? break pads still good at 127,000 miles.

I love the space I get when I lower the back seats... got a Water heater home from Lowes that way.... ;)

Pick the one you feel you could drive all day and then some...

Both my gen 3 Priuses were extremely smooth and quiet, and I would compare acceleration with the Corolla. My 2016 feels the same in acceleration as the previous year, however the electric motor drive feels much stronger when only using electricity in my 2016 version. Having said these things, the Corolla is a great car, fuel efficient, comfortable for 4 adults, lots of luggage space. For me, it's a toss-up. I few years ago Consumer Reports did a comparo between the Corolla and the Prius, which is cheaper in the long run. They found the Corolla came out cheaper in the 5 year comparison. However, that was then, and this is now. The new gen 4 Prius gets higher fuel mileage now, I would think it would still be close. I just like the Prius more. Like another member of this forum posted, you can park a Prius between a Lexus and a BMW, and one would find it difficult to judge which owner of the three cars was in a higher socio-economic bracket. Park a Corolla between the Lexus and BMW, and one would think the Corolla owner was less fortunate in economic standing. I don't judge people by what they drive, but many others do.

I bought the Prius instead of the Corolla to get more room to transport a medium sized dog. We tested a crate in my 2008 Corolla and it did not fit well. We recently took a trip with 2 dog crates in my Prius.
