After two weeks of ownership this what happened after an older gentleman pulled out in front of me. I hit him broadside going about 25-30 mph. The tab so far for parts and labor $11500.00 There was no airbag deployment. I'm praying for quick parts delivery.

    One too many zeros? o_O

For $11,500 I'd expect something like this:

No....that looks about right for 12k on an Advanced Prime.

    Priuses have glass jaws.
FORTUNATELY......everybody walks away and the crossed oval company gets to sell more parts and the good folks down at the Beat-n-Bang Body shop get a few hours worth of billable time.

AND......somebody a few years from now will get a PHEV with an added depreciation bonus.
    Win Win Win! :)

Seriously though....glad it was a relatively minor accident.
    That's why we have insurance.

Did the car's precollosion system do anything to help you slow down or warn you?

I am so sorry to hear and see that. No one should get in the way of a new car (especially a Prime). I think I am going to be afraid to drive mine home (when I eventually get one).

    Wow!

Well there is the radar up front. No sensors cause it's a Premium, not an Advanced.

@sonomac , glad you're ok. It seems minor enough that hopefully the repair is (relatively) easy to do for the body shop. Toyota said the front bumper is in 3 pieces for ease of repair/lower cost. I have an idea of what the 3 pieces are but Toyota never actually disclosed it so we're left guessing or using our imagination. Are you able to see the 3 pieces?

Well there's the hood, the top part of the bumper (above the logo), the centre bit with the acrylic piece, the lower air dam is cracked, the passenger side headlight cover (the part that covers the 4 lenses), the passenger side painted area of the bumper and whatever else is behind that we can't see (like the radar, or foam bits or bumper or wiring)

The shop ordered 33 parts 8 of which are on backorder. Looks like I'll be driving a rental til the middle of January.

With that much expense I could see one getting totaled pretty easily if it were a few years old. Hope you get it fixed soon

Yikes. Now I know why the insurance on my prime was so high! It was the same as on my z3 M Roadster.

Glad it was minor though and everyone walked away ok.

I wonder how much of the $11,500 is parts and how much is labor.

Note the buckled hood. This isn't a minor fender bender. A minivan rear ended my 1996 Taurus the first week I had it. The minivan hood buckled, but there was only paint damage to my bumper. Years later, I realized that the impact had actually bent the car's frame, and was likely the cause of several minor issues.

Of course the cost for this can also be due to the fact the car is only produced in small numbers at this time. This more limited availability on parts that most likely need to come from Japan.

Wonder if the Premium grade has the forward facing "spy" camera up by the rearview mirror and if it would record something like this. The camera used by LDA and pre-collision system others have referred to.

Did you notice the seatbelt tensioners tighten?

I thought any vehicle with TSS-P would have the camera with the capability of taking photos.

That is what the Owner's Manual says BUT it is not owner accessible. Since my Prius Prime will not have navigation, I'm going with an after-market GPS+dashcam. But now I'm thinking about what to put on the front license plate holder:

I'm also wondering about the precollision warning in prime. Did anyone responded your questions above?

In my case, I was driving in the freeway and trying to overtake a bus. I think my car was too close to the bus therefore I was getting a red warning on the dash. I did not feel anything at all if the car actually step on the break for me...

No I think it's for Toyota to analyse and improve PCS.

Well seems a lot of damage has been done !
The whole front end is more or less completely destroyed.
The automatic grill shutters need to be renewed.
The hood is also bent,so they will order a new one .
    Everything has to be painted.
Employees have to be paid .
Seems about right to me .
