Have had the new car for a few days now and I wanted to charge it overnight.

Backstory: We traded in our 2006 Prius (sorry to see it go) for a 2017 Prime Premium. Wifey drives a 2010 Prius so we have both over a decade of understanding.

The charging port door would not unlock! On multiple pressings the light would go on or off but it would never open.

Did I replace the cap properly? What did I do wrong? I panicked and then told Wifey we needed to bring the car back in to the dealership to fix this problem!

Wifey said, don't be an idiot, let me unlock the car (I did not know she had locked it). She pressed the button, I pressed the charging port and it popped open. She said "Don't ya think they would have set it up that way so if the car is locked you can't get access to the charging port?"

I mumbled agreement and plugged in the cable connect. Fully deflated, but happy.

Take aways: Always ask someone who knows more than you do and a Happy New Year To All!!!

She is kind and well knows she is smarter than I but, yes I reckon she is counting the months until we replace her 2010 with a new Prius. :)

    Happy New Year!

This should never happen if you have the key in your pocket, right?

Off topic, but do you know what you call the field of study that primarily deals with electrons?

    Wait for it...

    Chemistry.

Electrical engineering is the study of electric fields.

    Odd, huh?

Well I found out that if you put the port cap in the storage slot to the right and forget to put it back after charging, you can still close the charge-port cover. Oops. After this happens, getting the charge-port cover open again is quite difficult. I finally managed it, but after that I decided I would just let the cap dangle on the side of the car rather than risk locking the cover over top of it and not being able to open the cover.

As i understand it, all you have to do is open an access panel, swap a couple wires around and it's good to go.

Damn it JimN, I'm a geologist not a theoretical physicist.
