Charge mode

Well, what some of us really would like to learn about is how much (at constant velocity), the mpg value diminishes when shifting from HV to charge mode.

Good question. Haven't tried that yet. But I will.

 

Huh? I wouldn't use charge mode going up a steep grade. All that will do is sap power from the engine and lower your gas mileage even more. Best to use it on the flats, preferably with a tail wind. I'll probably never use charge mode, I don't think.

 

But I believe Charge Mode saps a % of your MPG toward recharging the battery. I have this scenario so I can test either way. If Charge Mode saps a percentage and you're going up an incline, does 2-3 mpg matter as much versus on flats that might cause a 10 mpg drop or more?

Also, perhaps going downhill in Charge Mode helps charge the battery faster? lol

Using charge mode except possibly what John mentions above is going to lower your gas mileage.

 

Same thing as believing in a free lunch or perpetual motion.

 

Hmm, so you're saying Charge Mode is just a nicety and really doesn't matter? Excuse my ignorance in the matter.

 

it is good for climbing really big mountains, or if you have a really important reason to drive ev, such as i have no idea. it's really close to useless in most circumstances.
can you think of a time in your pip when you would have traded 10 mpg for more ev range?

you're only losing 10 MPG for about a half of an hour so if you're on a long trip more than a half an hour it makes sense besides how do you get 640 miles on 7 gallons of gas?

 

7 gallons? how are you going to get 640 miles on 7 gallons and an extra 25 miles of charge? sounds like 375 without force charge or 365 with force charge.

my calc is wrong, cause i figured 45 mpg for the whole trip, not half an hour. but even so, do we know it's 10 mpg? i think we only have rough estimates. what we do know is that it's less efficient to convert gasoline to electricity, than it is to use gas for power, due to conversion losses.

When I tried it out my mpg read 47 mpg while it was charging then the final mpg for the round trip was 58 mpg
