I have parked my car in the rain today. After a day of raining, I opened my charging push door and found the entire charging area wet. Luckily the plug has stopped water getting into the contacts.
Is this a concern? I will try to put weatherstrip foam from home depot to see if helps.

no worries, and no need to go beyond what toyota has provided. someone else posted about this as well. the pip has had an open charging area for almost 5 years with no problems, and charging outside in rain and snow is not an issue.

    Nope.

J1772 considers this and other scenarios like standing in a pool of water in its charging standard for plug-ins.

With the snow that's been falling lately I have been using a 160 mph leaf blower to clear out the snow from the charge port area as well as the snow on the rest of the car

Just want to clarify. I did not leave the door open in the rain. Look like someone spray water directly into the charging Area leaving it wet..:)

yes, that is how they have been for 5 years. and now the prime is the same. the outer door is not waterproof.
it's a non issue, but feel free to stick weatherstripping all over your new car if it makes you more comfortable.:)

You'd be fine, more likely to be level headed than most of us.

No concern. The design is well thought out. I've recharged in heavy rain a number of times. I've also had to brush off wet snow. No problem.

Do we need to drill weep holes at the door?

I'm no expert, but I would assume Toyota anticipated rain might occur during charging so I would think this isn't a problem. But I've been wrong before

Is the Toyota charge cable GFCI protected or does it rely in your electric outlet being so?

"Connect to an AC 120 V outlet (NEMA 5-15R) with a Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter (GFCI) and a circuit breaker."
