thought I'd take a stab at looking at a wider variety of +'s & minuses;
For gas - if you only lug around 2 or 3 gallons - an explosive accident won't be nearly as severe . . . you've lost at least a few sticks of dynamite blast compared to carrying a dozen gallons. Maybe Bob's i3 is the way to go?
On the other hand - the large - low slung - huge skateboard style traction pack has not only decreased vehicle center of gravity - it significantly increases potential interior volume/storage area (no drive line hump) as well as providing a structeral platform that increases frame rigidity.
It's like Paul Simon sings "One man's ceiling is another man's floor"

ya, i don't think many people are worried about their car exploding, whether the point is valid or not.

as for interior space, it's never been a problem for gassers, and no hump in fwd cars. both points are a tough sell.

 

There is still a hump for the exhaust.
