Yes Bob... Taking that as a grain of salt. Also given it's from an UK site, and their dislike of any Toyota products especially their hybrids, I'm not surprised it's biased.

From Fuelly, the Gen 4 is doing at least that ~57MPG, but that's MPG-US! So they may be driving the Prius like they stole it and baby the Niro?

I read the Prius and the Ioniq forum every day .... and I am still undecided. European and Asian Ioniq owners are reporting very favorable numbers. But for me, it will eventually be resolved when I can sit-in and test drive both. I tend to discredit media findings (I have no more confidence in their reports than I do in their political polls) and awards (Ioniq is winning 'car of the year' awards).

For me the decision will be based on ride, comfort, fit and finish, performance, reliability....... and cost. While I like pictures of the Prime, I'm seriously thinking about the basic hybrid. If nothing changes ..... the Prius hybrid is off my short list based solely on appearance.

Not sure whose dislike you are referring to. If you mean UK many motoring journalists and children in aging bodies such as a certain J Ckarkson, I guess they tend, lazily in my view, to follow the fashion to denigrate Prii.

Not sure that goes for everyone in the UK though. Some of us have more sense than to take such folk seriously and we quite like our Prii!!

I'm in the same boat... Especially that Toyota decided not to ship the Prime here because we are not ready to take on plug in hybrids (huh?!?) With Hyundai promises to bring Ioniq plug-in here, with a year or two under its belt, I would possibly jump ship in 2018.

I have been a strong advocate of the Toyota hybrids, most of my family have been driving Toyota HSD since I owned one back in 2010 ( HyCam, v, c, and a new HyCor on the way.) I even consider buying a used RX for my wife and a couple of growing kids. But the time has come for more competitions. If the Ioniq and Niro are good hybrids, why not?

WAG on my part, but yes. @godzillaismad doesn't list were he is at, but Auris is still called a Corolla in Australia, and they might get the hybrid version there.

I was excited about a hybrid Corolla. I think the Auris Hybrid is called the Prius c in the US. They are definitely different than the Corolla.

The Prius c is the Aqua in Japan. Europe gets a Yaris hybrid using the Aqua drivetrain instead to avoid the import tariffs.
The Auris was the Corolla replacement in much of the world, but some markets kept the Corolla name. It is slightly smaller than the US Corolla. The US gets the Auris wagon/hatchback, but named the Corolla iM since it was intended as a Scion model. No plans for the hybrid version though.

Yes, sorry I thought you guys know about that abbreviation. The hyCor was released in June this year and has been very popular due to its aggressive pricing. It's got the Gen 3 engine with a double wishbone rear suspension. Quite nicely equipped, with SAT NAV, led headlights, mid grade corolla specs, all for AUD $27k... Very very good price, roughly $8k less than base Gen 4 Prius.

The Auris hybrid is also a big seller in Europe; where it avoids the import tariff that the Prius has.

Impressive though only 1 vehicle, 6 fill-ups. Lets wait to make our judgements until the cars reporting is in the hundreds and we see the typical distributions. (I come from a background where testing cycles were in the millions.)

I look at my vehicle and I'm amazed at the much better and much worse results some others get but then I look at the averages over 14 million miles and 680+ drivers and I'm reassured that the data makes some sense in terms of what is the norm for the car in all conditions and all terrain and most drivers.

I was just thinking those numbers are skewed by winter Temps. So when averaged with summer, it should be even higher ... one would think.

The closest US relative of the Auris Hybrid (which is sold as the Corolla Hybrid in Australia) is the Lexus CT 200h - basically the same car, just skinned differently, and more luxurious inside.

Also, there's a new Corolla Hybrid in China, that's based on our Corolla, and a Levin Hybrid, that's also based on our Corolla (complicated stuff related to how Chinese-market cars from non-Chinese automakers are produced - basically, you end up getting two separate Chinese companies manufacturing non-Chinese cars inside of China, and selling the same car under different model names and under the same brand). I believe both are based on the Gen 3 Prius powertrain.

The Auris Hybrid is a Scion iM HSD, same platform of the Corolla, with the 3gen Prius 1.8 powertrain.
    Toyota Auris - Wikipedia

Prius c is the same platform of the Yaris, holding a 1.5 evolution of the 2gen Prius.

Although the Auris has an independent rear suspension (like the CT 200h (that is based on it)), where the US Corolla has a twist beam (like the Gen 3 Prius).

The Auris is also a shorter car, in wheelbase and length, than the US sized Corolla.
The same is true of the Yaris to Prius c comparison.

Does this person do other cars too? Anyone know the figures of the other ones? It's definitely impressive but don't get how it's done

I can't wait to hear more about the Ioniq. Is it a fake (VW) or is it real?

Here's one article: Hyundai Ioniq Electric review: The electric car comes of age

It's the UK and they are stating real world figures is around 90 - 100 miles EV.

    Simple math:
    • 95 Miles EV / 28 kWh Battery = 3.39 ratio
So now let's do that for the Prius Prime, and say real world is around 28 EV:
    • 28 Miles EV / 8.8 kWh Battery = 3.18

So even in this scenario the Ioniq beats out the Prime in efficiency. But I wonder, was the Ioniq meant to play toward EPA standards or is it the real deal?

    BMW i3:
    • 114 Miles EV / 33 kWh Battery = 3.45
So even supposedly this is more efficient than the Prime even though EPA states otherwise.

So let's see what's going to happen!
