TCI hybrids also set a November record with 1,790 units sold, up 102.3% - representing 10.9% of TCI’s total sales for the month. With the Prius family leading the way, Toyota brand hybrid sales were up 128.2% with 1,650 units sold.

    Vehicle 2016 MTD 2015 MTD % Change 2016 YTD 2015 YTD % Change
    1 Prius c 452 125 261.6% 2996 2951 1.5%
    2 Prius Liftback 364 126 188.9% 2573 1526 68.6%
    3 Prius v 161 177 -9.0% 1972 2312 -14.7%

    • Toyota Prius c, 452 units (up 261.6%, new November record)

It doesn't mention anything about Lexus brand hybrid sales. The Prius and Prius c outsells all Lexus passenger cars except the IS (at 2886 units this year)

Also, the RAV4 surpassed the Corolla as the best selling Toyota in Canada at 46,103 units YTD compared to the Corolla's 43,411 (which includes the Toyota-branded Corolla iM). We'll see if it can hang onto its lead to close out the year.

Lastly, the LX570 is up 131.7% (more than 2x) YTD sales. Haven't seen those around in ages.

It's in the minds of a number of Canadians that it's "AWD or bust".

I've been driving a Gen 3 in the harshest of winter conditions (-46°C at worse but typically -20°C to -30°C). Granted, I didn't have to deal with heavy wet snow 4-8" deep. It's typically 4" on a "bad" storm and it's the powdery stuff so it's easier to navigate than 4" of slush imo.

And Quebec is the only province that requires winter tires on all vehicles (I think it applies to commercial vehicles too but I'm not 100% certain).

In that case, studs may have at least given some of those people a fighting chance. Studless probably won't help that much on slick ice. I've driven in sheet ice but fortunately for me, it was flat. Braking even from 30km/h (20mph) takes several car lengths. I was watching the street below as people stopped at a traffic light. Maybe 10m? (30ft?).

it appears more like the prius is moving way way more, because they were moving so very little prior to the uptick.
just saying, until the #'s for december come in - there are over a dozen other models moving a ton more product, right?

Can't find the chart showing the same Dynamics north of the US. Sorry - but it's still the same idea ~
But I'm sure there may be some county somewhere, or a city in some province where the dynamics skew from the norm.

I doubt you see high mileage in the Yukon, for instance. (For the US people, it shares a border with Alaska).

And what's the problem? Isn't it a good thing that more people are buying hybrids?

I am pleased Canadians are buying their fair share of the v's I don't know why US buyers are not grabbing more, probably not aware of them like we are here on PriusChat.

As you pointed out Tideland, Canada approx. equals California by pop size. We should compare CA and CAN Prii sales when we get a chance.

Canada does not have the CARB restrictions or incentives.

but that would only impact Plug_ins right? as California does not mandate or give incentives for hybrids anymore (they kicked hybrids out of free HOV in 2009 or so). Canada has strong Plug_in incentives so Prime Plug_in ought to do well in Canada.
USA does not promote hybrids much, I assume partially because Toyota has the leadership, USA would rather favor plug-ins where Toyota has left that arena open to other (USA) companies.

good thing yes - problem no. Sometimes sales dip - & it becomes drama fodder for anti-clean cars, yet it may just be that model's production stopped (maybe maintenance, or a parts shortage, or re-tooling for upcoming model, etc) ... and yet, no one finds it a 'problem' when/if the issue is put in a better prospective. Isn't the opposite true where sales double or triple due to extraneous or intervening circumstances ? Especially if those conditions better explain sales beyond love or hate for the car?
That said, it' s often that hybrids are priced high in both Canada AND Europe. So increased sales are certainly a bigger event than here in the U.S.

Good Car Bad Car reports Canadian numbers.

Hybrids, and even PZEV rated ICE cars, still count for part of a manufacturer's ZEV fleet portion for CARB.
