I notice a fair amount of oil on the front passenger side tire and a little on the rear, not evenly distributed. It was only on the rubber of the tire, on the outside of the tire facing the curb. No splatters in the wheel well. I took off the plastic hub caps, no oil on the brakes or anything that I could reach with my fingers around the hub. No visible oil anywhere except the tire, right up to the hubcap. Brake fluid reservoir is full. Very strange. Maybe I just ran over a bottle of cooking oil? Any thoughts? I've only owned a prius for a week, but I'm a fairly good shade tree mechanic. 2006
Might well be. And that'd be good, best scenario. There's a drive belt pulley coming off the crankshaft on that side. No oil in the engine bay, or on the belts? I'm guessing no.
get a strong light and examine the timing cover and oil pan carefully. if its dry, all you need is to wash off your tires.
Thanks all, I looked further, found nothing. Maybe dog pee? But it felt like oil, no pee smell. Weird.
I would imagine theres a big difference in taste. Did you try that? Sorry. Sometimes I can't help it. But I'm glad it looks like it didn't come from your car. Enjoy the ride.
