Backup Camera

You're suppose to look back when you reverse, that camera is just a guide. To spot small kids and see how far you are from the object you might be reversing into

I don't understand these electronic assistance features. I guess you can blame it when the angle calculated is incorrect and you hit the object next to you

 

Really? The manual says they don't curve.

 

Oh maybe they don't. I just drove it home today. The lines are there for sure.

The manual called them "fixed guide lines" and says this about them:

"Displays a guide path when the vehicle is being backed straight up."

 

They absolutely do not curve. That being said, I find the lines very helpful, especially the center mark that shows where the center of the car is.

 

Mine curve while backing up, but I can switch to static lines if I want to. Don't remember if I switch it on the screen or with the IPA button next to my right knee.

Curvey backup lines in the rear camera view are non-USA cars. US only gets the straight lines.

 

Let me guess a little tongue-in-cheekly; since the curvy lines can be interpreted as "your car will stay inside these lines and not hit anything", but the car CAN hit stuff outside the lines, lawyers found it best to exclude it?

I always had a hard time staying inside the lines.

Lines that move according to the steering wheel position indicating where the car will back up to. Apparently not available on US cars.

Uh, yeah, they are available on US cars, in the US. I've driven in a Dodge Ram in Denver with adaptive backup lines that curve with the steering wheel.

 

On US *Priuses* that is. At least what David said.

Only seats four and no curvy lines....deal breakers.

 

Having used them, the curvy lines don't do anything useful, and the regular Prius doesn't seat 5 either, at least not with any practicality or comfort, so that's not a loss either.
