I hope you realize the Prius already has a 53 kw electric motor.

I doubt he will find many current Insight users on a Prius forum, though.

Even if this did what you say it should, besides the voiding of any remaining vehicle warranty, what insurance company would cover the vehicle after such a radical conversion?

A different rear axle and a battery aren't super radical

bills is over 20 years old, so the rules don't apply. but there was never any talk of insurance problems with any of the past conversion kits sold at retail.

Several members of the EEVC have conversions and have insurance. I know two vehicles are in NJ (a Geo Metro and a Chevy S-10) and two in PA (a Ford Ranger & a Lomax). I know one of the guys has NJ Manufacturers but I don't know if they are covering the Metro.

I would be very surprised if a Prius could be converted into an EV with a 100 mile range for $3000. An original Insight with a manual transmission would be a more suitable candidate. Either way you aren't going to have any usable cargo space.

Conversions can be a good hobby but there are reasons why there isn't a thriving EV conversion industry in the USA. I wish our Armenian friend well.

Selling the conversion kit and/or conversion service restricts your market to people who have that much ready cash to spend on their cars, and on a product with unknown reliability to boot.

Other people have said similar things, but I think that you'd be much better off buying used Gen 2's, refurbishing them, converting them, and then selling the whole package for about $8,000 - 12,000. Doing it this way would give you greater control over the condition of the cars that your product goes in to, and opens your market up to people who need to finance the cars.

This would be a GREAT way to avoid the HV replacement. I'd do it.

when you say solicit, do you mean when he has product available for purchase? or do you mean we can't even discuss future potential here, tossing ideas around and giving feedback?
