    Dianne will tell us.

But I'm guessing it's closer to 33,000+, if you want seats and a steering wheel.

In the wee hours of the morning, I drive past one of the big Malls. And there are Prius drivers plugged in to the free charging stations. Taking advantage of that free juice.

I wonder if they will eventually start charging money for the electricity.

    What's not in California?
A base model is approx $28000 with no options. Minus $4500 federal credit = 23500. Then also deduct $1500 CVRP $$ = 22000, then deduct the 500 rebate = 21500. He's accurate, providing you're on a base Plug in which has what your package 3 has... pretty close to the same features anyway. Plug in adds seat heaters and you lose passenger capacity.. and the spare tire.

What happens to the $4500 if you're on Social security? They don't take any taxes out

They sit there eating their McDonald's breakfast, and plug-in. Nothing wrong with that, I guess. Maybe they live in a condo or apartment and don't have any way to recharge at home.

I guess you talk to your tax professional for details on how to work this out for your own circumstances.

Because if your tax bill is zero then there's no tax credit

Ah heck, on the news they just showed another refinery fire in Torrance, CA. That means gas will probably shoot up in price. Glad I'm driving a Prius! ;)

Too many folks just assume there's a $4500 check coming to them from the IRS, and that's not the way this $4500 tax credit works.
SEE/SPEAK to your tax professional for details that pertain to your own circumstances!
I know how this works, but I am not going to give tax advice!

That is great! Unfortunately, I have never ever had a zero tax bill. Even in retirement. And when I start drawing my Social Security next year, my taxes will go up even more.

    Welcome to KALEEFORNYA.

    @priuscatprimeguy Wait. ? ? ?
    Simple scenario follows...
So what if a couple has a combined income of 100K, and federal taxes have been already deducted by the employer to the point where nothing is owed and no tax rebate is given, IOW the bottom line is magically $0. Are you saying the couple wouldn't be given a tax credit for buying a PHEV or a BEV?

EDIT: In our case, we will have a $3K credit every single year due to a big real estate loss some years back. We will not outlive that -$3k unless we die at 120 years old.

No. The example is that the couple owes nothing that year in addition to what was already taken out of their paychecks.

I think the phev tax credit is given if your initial taxes are greater than the $4500 credit
