    Yes, I accept this, and at the same time I get this and better in my Gen2 with no hyper miling and mostly very short journeys. So they don't help me much as I would expect to get FAR better than this If I had a Gen4.

    Then you have: 2016 Toyota Prius MPG - Actual MPG from 158 2016 Toyota Prius owners

    All sorts of Prii 4th gen @ 54 average comfortably. Compare that to the previous models which is like 48 mpg.... or less...

    No, NEDC cycle claims don't help anyone. Next year is due, replaced by WLTP procedure ratings.
    Currently the most accurate is EPA, and sometimes is revised (see Honda, Ford, Hyundai)

    But look at the real world fuel consumption summaries...3Gen 47MPG(US) -> 4Gen 54.6MPG(US).

    Definitely looks much better. And 3Gen performed very well already.

    in legal speak? we call this "illusory"
    Illusory | Definition of Illusory by Merriam-Webster
    Why ? if the battery falls out - ok
    if it won't charge? - ok
    if it continually throws codes? - ok
    But - NO WHERE does this mean you won't loose 20% - 30% - 50% capacity during year 3, 4, 5, etc. This is why these types of crap warranties for the Nissan Leaf were litigated. This is why the 1st gen Honda hybrid battery failures were in need of Honda's settlement agreement. It's insulting marketing BS, that Hyundai ought to avoid, in light of other manufacturers' history. Purchasers of hybrid & PHEV's are better protected by CARB's 10yr warranty requirements of capacity longevity. But CARB hasn't seen fit to give the same level of protection to pure EV's - so, buyer beware.
    They (imo) just went from a grade of 'A' to a 'B' due to these warranty advertising shenanigans.

    My gen2 is 9 yrs old and Toyota in the UK has offered to extend warranty up to 10 years if I have a free check by the dealer at the annual service.

    The other side of the story is how many actual failures there are and with the Prius, it seems that although there are some, they are a very small minority. Not bad considering how long they've been making then and how many old ones are still out there going strong.

    2 completely different animals. Toyota only sells hev's & phev's - traction packs which are stressed no where near the level of ev's. Last i checked, Toyota (rightly so) makes no such claims, other than what non-CARB or CARB states mandate for warranties. 10 yrs & 150k miles under CARB has for the most part been quite do-able.
    The model S began production during mid 2012 & since that time (many having driven over 100K miles) capacity loss has typically been around 5% at best ... Ie; a non-issue for warranty. The written warranty says 8yrs or infinite miles, which falls in step w/ historic use/reliability. Last I read, there was only one model S that was at or above 200k miles & he was reporting the same minimal capacity degradation.

    That's due to the EPA updating the test rules. Any 2016 model and one will be tested under these same rules.

    Any trends in Hyundai hybrid battery problems? The Sonata hybrid has been out since 2012

    That's related to their wrong MPG values on the window sticker, which was reported as unintentional on their part. The new rules for fuel economy testing the EPA had for 2016 wasn't just for numbers closer to real world, but also to clarify confusing parts in the old ones.

    This matters on a BEV, and I wonder if we will see a capacity warranty when it arrives to dealerships. However, on a Hybrid or even a PHEV, the capacity is not as important. We'll have to wait to see how it fares in real world MPG, but it looks like Hyundai might actually have a serious competitor to the Prius on their hands.

    Ok a little bit smoke and mirrors here: http://blog.caranddriver.com/move-over-prius-eco-hyundai-ioniq-hybrid-blue-is-rated-at-58-mpg?

    Simply state, it's the Ioniq BLUE trim that'll boast such large MPG which also has higher city mileage but I believe the Prius Eco has higher city.

    The article states that there is a 1-2 mpg increase due to the special tires and what not.

    Now if we bald the Prius Eco tires a bit wouldn't it be higher? This also makes me believe the regular Ioniq will fall a little short of the Prius MPG and this was a little bit of a stunt...but we'll see!

    If the Blue is just 1 to 2 MPG better, that would put the regular Ioniq a little over the regular Prius.

    Regarding Europe, batteries will have 8yr warranty // 200,000km...just saw it advertised in Spanish. Toyota has 10yr but has to be shop tested in a yearly basis.

    Worth noting that Auto Express got far worse mileage out of the Ioniq than the Gen 4 with 15" wheels (and NiMH because Europe)... and the Prius has higher NEDC numbers. (NEDC's a joke, but getting higher NEDC numbers when the EPA is getting lower, is... interesting.)

    In US gallons, that's 48.1 out of the Prius, 39.9 out of the Ioniq. They're driving both cars decently hard, I'm sure.

    This warranty covers repairs needed to correct defects in materials or workmanship of the components listed here and supplied by Toyota, subject to the exceptions indicated under “What Is Not Covered” on pages 15-16.
    • Battery control module (battery voltage sensor)
    • Hybrid battery
    • Hybrid control module (power management control module)
    • Inverter with converter

    Coverage is for 96 months or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

    WHAT IS NOT COVERED
    This warranty does not cover damage or failures resulting directly or indirectly from any of the following:

    Gradual Capacity Reduction of Traction Battery (Lithium-ion Battery)
    Lithium-ion battery capacity (the ability to hold a charge) gradually reduces with time and use. This is a natural characteristic of lithium-ion batteries. The extent at which capacity is reduced changes drastically depending on the environment (ambient temperature, etc.) and usage conditions such as how the vehicle is driven and how the lithium-ion battery is charged. Reduction of lithium-ion battery capacity is NOT covered under warranty. In order to lessen the possibility of capacity reduction, follow the directions listed in the Owner’s Manual under “Capacity Reduction of the Hybrid Battery (Traction Battery).”

    ■ Capacity reduction of the hybrid battery (traction battery)
    The capacity of the hybrid battery (traction battery) will decline gradually
    when the hybrid battery (traction battery) is in use. The rate at which it
    declines will differ in accordance with environmental conditions and the way
    in which the vehicle is used. Observing the following can help suppress battery
    capacity decline.

    ● Avoid parking the vehicle in areas with a high temperature under direct sunlight
    when the hybrid battery (traction battery) is fully charged.
    ● Avoid accelerating and decelerating frequently and suddenly when EV driving.
    ● Avoid frequent driving near the top speed for EV driving. (→P. 87)
    ● Leave a low level of charge in the hybrid battery (traction battery) when
    leaving the vehicle undriven for a long period of time.
    After confirming that EV mode has switched to HV mode, turn the power
    switch off.
    ● Use the charging timer function as much as possible in order to fully
    charge the hybrid battery (traction battery) immediately before starting
    off. (→P. 147)

    Also, if the hybrid battery (traction battery) capacity reduces, the distance that
    can be driven in EV mode decreases. However, vehicle performance does
    not significantly become worse.
