C-HR inferior implementation of Prius engine/gearbox?

    Interesting review of the C-HR in the UK.

    "Power comes from the same 120bhp 1.8-litre petrol-electric hybrid unit and CVT transmission as the Prius, but unfortunately the set-up isn’t as well integrated here. Where the Prius combines CVT gearbox and electric motor to deliver smooth and effortless acceleration, the C-HR seems to rely heavily on its internal combustion engine. Even gentle applications of the throttle send the engine’s revs soaring."

    I really liked the pictures of the CHR before I bought the Prius. I'm glad that I didn't wait for it. I'm happy with my car. The CHR will be made in Turkey, right? For some reason, I don't really feel comfortable with that for a new model.

    I'm curious why you say that. Toyota Turkey has a good reputation.

    My guess is that they're making the engine come on stronger at highway speeds to make up for the added aero drag of the less efficient shape and increased frontal area.

    Although, this UK review makes it sound like it's just as smooth as the Prius in switchover. Glancing through the pics of the interior in this review, I noticed that the heated seats have 3 settings, not 2 settings like the Gen 4.

    If the 'chicken tax' is still in effect, the North American CH-R won't be coming from Turkey.

    Chicken tax only applies to cargo vehicles, having back seats gets around it.

    I knew Ford did some deconstruction and rebuilding on the Transit Connect to get around the tax, but not the details. If Toyota brings a Turkish C-HR to the US as a 'passenger vehicle', will they have to categorize it as a station wagon? The Transit Connect van and wagon are both EPA special purpose vehicles.
