    There will be a delay on the October summary. Last night, it looked perfect but I didn't capture a copy. When I looked at noon today, it appears the diesel table over-wrote the hybrid section. I left a comment and hope Jeff Cobb fixes it soon.

    He did and it is fixed: October 2016 Dashboard

    From memory, the October Prius hatchback sales were in the 5,000 unit range ... evidence that the dealers stopped selling the 2016-2017 Prius due to the parking brake problem. I was able to find some obscure references on the NHTSA web site.

    thanks bob. is there any place i can get the last 5 years of alt fuel vehicle sales as a percent of total vehicle sales, excluding diesels and light trucks?man, toyota is really getting their hat handed to them. they better rethink strategy going forward.these numbers are so skewed by manufacturers putting products on hold, new models and recalls, it's hard to make sense of them.

    It looks like Jeff Cobb keeps all copies of his Dashboard report across the years. That is where I would start.
    I agree that since September 2013, Prius hatchback sales 'tanked' and the others only grew at a steady pace. There has been a market shift but I'm not sure it is just Toyota other than my favorite complaint ... bring everything engineered for the Prius and the Estima hybrid to the USA.

    One significant change which we share has been the growth of plug-ins like your PiP, my i3-REx, a Volt. Others have gone pure EV with Tesla, Leaf, e.t.c. Strange how PriusChat still attracts so many former Prius owners and operators.

    outside of tesla stealing high end vehicle sales, i have to wonder if bev's and phev's are picking up more sales than hybrids are losing.
    i realize gas prices are a thing (as tochatihu likes to say) but i wonder if hybrids are ever coming back, or if all future growth is in plug ins.

    Plug ins are still in the early adopter phase. While their sales, imo, will continue to grow at a rate faster than hybrid sales, they have a ways to go before the flat numbers overcome the hybrid numbers.

    As gas prices increase, those that are mid or late adopters will gravitate towards hybrids.
    I don't expect the numbers of plugin sales to surpass the number of hybrid sales for at least 4 years, and quite possibly 8.

    Some of that is definitely one off situations.
    Try not to let short term trends get you down.

    People will come around. It just takes some longer than others to realize we are speeding towards a cliff...

    GOOD CAR BAD CAR displays the sales data by segment and model. Though they don't break out the hybrid numbers from the ICE ones of models that have both; same for diesel.

    Many of the early Prius owners that moved on still have interest in the general alt fuel market, and Priuschat is good about allowing non-Prius topics.

    As I've said elsewhere, hybridization of ICE models will continue on until the general public will care about as much as their new being a hybrid or not as they care about their automatic transmission is a step, double clutch, or CVT.

    I think we will soon reach the point where mild hybrid systems will become the standard for the non-econo models of a brand due to falling battery and component costs.
