I take this is in reference to the next gen Leaf.

Once the EV range is over 100 miles, a BEV as the second car works for a large number of people across the nation. The MSRP for the large battery Leaf makes it unattractive as a second car for many though.

The Ioniq BEV won't compete on range against the others, but it could be successful in the second commuter car niche if Hyundai prices it right.

So true . . . but - if we play devil's advocate - no one wins, as cobalt also plays a roll in refining oil ... for sulpher removal. So - do we dump our cell phone batteries ? or our gasoline cars.

I've only seen european and korean pricing for the ioniq bev, but lets look.
Hyundai IONIQ Electric Has A 28 kWh Battery, 105 Miles Real Range

If its at around korean pricing
Then it won't severely undercut the bolt or tesla III or leaf. The 30 kwh leaf is not doing well in the US or europe versus the longer range and more expensive model S.

I welcome the addition but I think the sweat spot of the ioniq is the phev version, but I expect the prime and volt to outsell it in america. Who knows how it will do in korea and europe. We will see.

If that ends up being close to US pricing, that will be very disappointing. That is in the same price range as the current Soul EV. I was hoping for it to be $10k less than the Bolt, or around the price of Prime.

The Sonata hybrid and PHEV aren't selling well, but I think they are more feature laden than the ICE model in addition to the low gas prices. The Ioniq and Niro are of a smaller, and cheaper, segment.
