Included maintenance/free?

    Maybe a stupid question, but here it goes:

    I just purchased a 2016 Prius, the car has 11k miles on it. I got it from an auto auction, does Toyota include any free maintenance on these cars?

    I ask because my other 3 cars (not all listed in sig) have free maintenance for 3 years each, transferrable.

    yes. 2 years/25,000 miles. not sure about transferability though. ask a dealer or call toyota.

    Does the purchased car have a salvage title? If so, NO warranty. NO free service. No nothing.

    No salvage title, I went to the website above but wasn't sure if Toyotacare was an included deal, or something that one had to pay extra for like it was on my Range Rover.

    excellent. save your oil and filter for a later change, that's the only free part that's worthwhile.

    And then forget to (choose 3 max)
    • change the oil filter
    • tighten the oil filter
    • replace the oil filter O-ring
    • install the oil filter O-ring
    • put oil in
    • put enough oil in
    • put only the recommended amount of oil in
    • use the brand of oil they promised you they would
    • replace the drain plug
    • tighten drain plug
    • change the crush washer
    • use a wrenches when vise grip or pliers are handy
    • return the car to you in 30 minutes only after you have been waiting 3 hours

    I'm kinda grateful Toyota Canada doesn't offer free maintenance: makes decision to go DIY easier.

    I think that was pretty much my first question here, to DIY or not.

    LMAO- I went to the dealership a while ago to buy some interior clips for my 1997 Supra. The car is fully built (by me, except for the machining) w/over 1000hp on "kill mode". As soon as I get there, I get mobbed by the service staff who keep pointing out to me what I've done wrong:

    The car isn't idling properly because it's not tuned (it has huge cams in it, it won't ever idle like a stock car),

    The "sweet smell" from the exhaust indicates a coolant leak (it's race fuel, smells like grape kool aid),

    The best part from the service lead: "The driveshaft is loose" and could be a huge safety concern (it's a carbon driveshaft, they make noise).

    sigh.

    As far as I know the free service is a few cheep oil changes. The tek is new shop kid there trying to teach lefty loosey to . I'd rather do it myself. William and Bisco are spot on. My dealer sent a card saying I missed my free service appointment.

    I'm a bit more upbeat about the state of our nearby dealership's competence. Maybe that's because my only experiences have been warranty and recall work. I went to a new owners night and they did an oil change demo, seemed an ok place.

    I'm doing all my own basic maintenance, and the only comments I got from them were to keep a log and all the receipts. I've had a few email questions for the service manager, he's been forthcoming and helpful.

    Maybe would be a different story if I was the more typical owner, getting all the servicing done by them, lol.

    This is directly applicable to the vehicle the OP mentioned had a salvage title on the issue of warranty but it does not speak to Toyota Care and that is unclear from this.

    I'm the OP- the car does not have a salvage title. That was brought up by someone who I assume is not familiar with the auction industry and just assumed it was salvage because it was an auction car.

    I go to dealer auctions- the car I purchased looks brand new and has 10,800 miles on it.
