I knew I was in CA when I heard commercials for a "soda" tax. In grade school, I always knew a kid had just moved up from CA when they called it a soda.

The commercial is trying to be deceptive by saying "it would only add 1 or 2 cents (and then voice gets quieter and quicker) PER OUNCE to the cost of a soda". That's nearly a quarter for a standard 12 ounce pop! I don't even pay that much per can at the moment, so it would more than double the cost.

Seems like a tax on poor people if you ask me.

I always drive as if I am invisible to other drivers. That may be why the Prius is my baby

Riding a motorcycle and especially taking a training class builds defensive driving skills that cross over into driving cagers.

Unfortunately, all 3 incidents with the Prius have happened when it wasn't moving at all. Maybe I need a defensive parking class.

I bought the car with a reconstructed title, so the front bumper had already been replaced once. I'll be on my 3rd bumper for this 2012 Prius once I repair it. Hopefully the 3rd one lasts more than 2 years.

3rd bumper. Dang.... I do hope it has better luck than the other 2.

I doo think the bumper skin is sacrificial. Even my sister lost one to a bush. Aerodynamics come at a price

I think there two possibilities, you have changed driving habits or color of your Prius car is less noticeable! May be both are true.

My wife says the Prius now accumulates water in the rear footwell on the passenger side whenever it rains. This just started happening after the car was backed into. She says it's completely dry on all sides of the footwell, so the point of entry is a mystery. I'm 4hrs away, so I can't take a look myself.

Any ideas where the water infiltration is coming from?

I just took the rear end appart to replace the Traction battery.
Any chance she parked the car going down hill?
If so I would say the rear window has been replaced the leak is at the top passenger side dripping onto the plastic then running forward under the rear seat and into the foot well.

If its constant get sensor to horn with proximity done. Mean, if someone come close to certain distance it start blinking the parking light or else screaming horn... Would certainly help anyone...

No accidents, but I have noted that no matter how fast I'm going, some folks resent being passed by my Prius, even if I'm 10 over, and will often jump out to pass me, and then exit 1/8 mile further down the road.

To increase daytime visibility from the front, how many Prius owners have added extra Daytime Running Lights? My 2012 hatchback had the OEM DRLs , but I find them to be wimpy and am considering adding a set on the left and right sides of the main air intake.
Or are folks just driving with their headlights on all the time? (My Plan B)

I prefer to drive without DRL. It's a waste of energy, and people are either looking at your vehicle or they aren't. If they aren't looking at your vehicle, no amount of lights will help.

The LEDs are energy efficient though, so sometimes I'll turn them on when visibility is reduced due to rain or overcast skies.

I added a DRL module to our 2011 that runs the highbeams at reduced intensity. They are on when the car is in Ready mode, unless they are overridden by turning on either the parking or lowbeam lights.

I ride motorcycles as well as automobiles, and for motorcycles my strong impression is that very bright lights in front help people see you with even a cursory glance and lead to less frequent pulling out directly in front of you. Noise also helps, but I prefer quiet vehicles and so do not purchase the noisy exhaust system models.
I believe transportation Canada collected data on the accident rates of cars with and without lights on (in the 1990s?), which showed enough of an effect that the Canadian government passed the requirement for Daytime Running Lights to be permanently "on" sometime before 2005(?).

Here's a picture I took the other day of my wife taking a turn in a parking garage, reduced intensity highbeams as DRLs (sorry for the blurry image) :

Lol, obviously, the mod added a LOT of grip to the road holding prowess of the tires! ;)
