Just to "muddy the waters", watch what happens in "auto" if you are driving long distance and dusk occurs. First the dash headlamp indicator comes on (headlamps on), but the dash lights don't dim. Then a little later they do.

As a certain fictional character would say, "fascinating!"

After running with DRLs, then stopping, my U.S.-market DRLs do not turn off. If I merely Park as dusk approaches, then turn the Parking lights on (ignition still on, parking brake off), the DRLs remain on. If I want the DRLs to turn off, I must cycle the ignition off and on.

During a cold stationary start, when I turn the Park lights on to wait for my passenger to arrive, the DRLs stay off. If I drive off while forgetting to turn on the headlights, the DRLs turn on the moment D is selected AND the parking brake is released.

If your waiting for someone and you shut down the car with the start button, the DRLs will go off and probably when you select Park. (y)

Fuzzy, when you selected parking lights, the circuit logic realised you were no longer running the vehicle and extinguished (such a nice word) the DRLs. :)

Well, in Canada the DRLs can't be "turned off" for driving. Unless you turn on the headlamps of course.
IF the parking brake is on when you put the car in "ready" the DRLs stay off until it is released, but if you stop, put the car in "P" or not, and then apply the parking brake the DRLs don't turn off. Until you turn the car off, that is. Then when you put the car back in "ready" with the parking brake applied, the DRLs, again, don't come on until the parking brake is released. It was set up this way so the lights wouldn't bother anyone when you wanted to just sit in "ready" without driving.

You misunderstood. The DRLs did not extinguish, they stayed on.

Man, I was absolutely blinded this morning! I was following a silver car with some chrome on the back, and every time we came to a red light my LED headlights reflected off that car and blinded me.

I'm going to have to turn the lights off briefly. Same thing happens when going through a drive-thru lane for coffee or something. I have to turn the lights off because there's too much bright reflection off the car in front of me.

Michelle, it's a whole New World at night! :D

    I totally agree.

I usually go out real early, before dawn, I see a lot of Gen2 and Gen3's driving around with no lights on at all. It's dark! No DRL's or anything.

What's wrong with those nuts?! And it's always that dark gray color that you can't see well.

I have one. It's out in my observatory! ;) I live in the middle of nowhere and there's not much going on anywhere nearby. There are a few bars in town but I don't drink. So....
