2007 Prius, 178k, newly bought 2 weeks ago, runs great I ordered the mini-VCI cable and software, mainly to add another SKS key and check the hybrid battery status. Bought a used SKS FOB from ebay. Installed software (but 1st removed the virus tha came on the CD), plugged in OBDII cable, car in ign mode. scanned all ecu's. But only a few ECU's show non * asterisk status. Anyone know why Techstream won't access the other ECU's? Thanks in advance! PS: I love this little engineering marvel of a car!
To make 1 key fob, you should've bought new. You're not going you save much money programming key yourself. You need to reseed the car and have to buy a code to do that. It's not free
Yeah, I found out that by reading you posts AFTER I bought the fob (bang head on wall). Do you know why the Techstream isn't reading all the ECU's? And where I can get another Techstream download without the embedded trojan virus(s)?
Check the pins on your mini-VCI to make sure none are bent. Sometimes, the cheap cables are not made well (and the problem can be an internal connection), so you might need to get a replacement from your vendor.
The pins are straight. I'm requesting a refund from the eBay seller. Can you recommend a good quality source for this?
can anyone recommend a mini-vci with techstream that will access all the ecu's in a gen2 prius? And where to buy it. Feel free to email me. Thanks PS: I returned the one I bought that didn't access everything.
Is that necessary for Gen 2 keys also? I know it's true for Gen 3, but OP has a 2007. If you bought a used fob that hasn't been virginized, you may be able to have that done to the used fob you bought for not much money (and bit of hassle waiting for shipping, etc.). Then it's not necessary to reseed the car. -Chap
Probably a real Mini VCI would work well if you could get one, but as far as I know, the thing has been cloned so aggressively that the cheap clones drove the original maker (XHorse) right out of making them, so any Mini VCI you can buy anywhere is a clone (of some variable level of quality). Some of the clones reportedly work better than others, but it's hard to know which one you're getting (because they really are clones, right down to cloning the "Mini VCI" on the label). I also ended up with one that doesn't talk to all my ECUs. I have been meaning to try a Tactrix Openport (San Francisco company) to see if it is more reliable, but I haven't yet, so I can't report. Even with the Openport you have to be careful. It's real if you buy from their website, but you can also find what look like "way better prices" elsewhere, and of course those are, again, clones. I'm planning to buy a real one when I get around to it, because I don't want to contribute to driving them out of the business too.... -Chap
Thanks for the tip on the virginizing . That looks good. The Tractrix website is down for maint. I check that out too.
Out of interest which file did your virus checker quarantine as containing a trojan? On the issue of interface cables, for a few dollars more (actually $60-$80) you can get a much better interface called VxDiag. Search for VxDiag for TIS on Amazing market place or fleabay. It is much easier to install, is more reliable and works faster, which you will appreciate if you spend any time using the MVCI clone.
Update. Apparently this "Virgin Toyota Lexus Scion Smart Key Unlock Reflash Reset Keyless FOB Prox" doesn't list the 2007 Prius in the compatibility list. The Tectrix website doesn't show KWP in the protocol list. So I'm still looking for a mini-VCI that will access all the ECU's in my 07 Prius.
I used AVG. It found the virus in 3 files. I just you post on the VxDiag. I will look into that one tonight.
That is actually only one file – FirmwareUpdateTool.exe. The other two point, a), to the directory path that contains the target file; and b), to the cabinet (compressed) file that contains the target file. These all point to the same file identified as containing the trojan. This is a file associated with the cable driver not Techstream. It is also not necessary to run this file to install the cable driver, so it is no loss. I also believe it is a false positive hit, but err on the side of caution and discard the file. Thanks for the feedback.
I have the same problem here, Techstream can't access all the ECU's. Tried too install the software again, but didn't help. So maybe my Mini VCI is broken as well. I'm going to Pay and Pray another one... EDIT: Yes its fried View attachment 120898
