I had to fiddle with the seats a bit before I found a good seating position. The ideal position has the seat reclined a bit more than I typically would in another car which feels a little weird initially but you get used to it. The seats are a little on the smallish side (this might be for weight reduction) and I suspect if I had to drive the car cross-country would start to feel a little cramped but in day to day driving it's not an issue.
The seats were painful for me initially. However, I now have a folded up towel placed at the rear of the base of the seat, so that small tweak has eliminated the leg and knee pain I was experiencing.
Where did you get your sheepskin? I have been wanting to get them for my gen 3. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Dreamer Car Mid-hard Memory Foam Lumbar Cushion Support & Neck Pillow Kit for Car Seat(Black) ^^^^I ordered this last week for my 2016 Three w/ ATP. I have never had a car give me such neck pain. I have to constantly rotate my neck and stretch it it seems on my commute. It has to be the lack of lumbar adjustability and non electric seats (meaning not as much fine adjustments possible)..it's driving me nuts but the above lumbar / neck pillow seem like a great soloution. And yeah, I have tried all the manually adjustable positions it seems to no avail (up/down/far away/ close up).... What's weird is I don't recall ever having this issue with my old 2013 three liftback, or my old 2015 Persona or my other Current car, the Wife's v Three which I did a couple thousand mile road trip in without issue besides being fed up driving.. It is assanine how toyota couldn't have even added a manually adjustable lumbar in the Three and below trims..!
I have heard this works for some people in other cars, so maybe I wouldn't at all be surprised if it works for several people in this car. I think there were a few reports like this about the Gen III Prius.
So true. I never had hip problem before this car. After a long holiday trip I started to suffer from a nerve on the left side. It goes from my back straight to my leg. I m now using a foam cushion to stop the pinch of the nerve. I m a big guy (1m90) and I love this car. But this problem will probably make me get ride of it. Just the local accessories store. There are different grades & brands, I got a pair of 2nd from the best, they seemed to have a thicker fleece. Just check that it's airbag compliant (either a hole in the side or stitching designed to split), though most seem to be these days.
This cushion is great. I don't know how it would be on cloth seat, but on SofTex it does not slip. Due to the special surface at the bottom, it just stays as reviewers on Amazon mentioned. It is not very thick, maybe an inch or so. Very comfortable. Of course it will take some time to reach the final verdict, but so far the status is go.
I had no seat issues in my July 4th 21 hour drive. The only wish I have is a nice place to place my forearms for those long trips. like I had in my Olds Cutlass Supreme sedan.
Right arm on center box top, doing nothing. (Or holding a chili dog! ) Left hand steering, with elbow propped up on the upper door panel. What ever happen to the "9 o'clock--3 o'clock" thing?
This is interesting. My commute is about 230 miles round trip, so I'm in the car 4-5 hours per day. To me, the seats are great...firm, comfortable, and easy to get into a good position. It's one of the few Toyotas in recent years in which the seats go back far enough for me, and I'm only 6 ft tall, with a 32 inch inseam. I tend to sit as far back as possible, but keep the seatback upright.
They are not uncomfortable to me, as they are firm and feel fine... I think it's the lack of lumbar support or "something" that is making my neck so stiff while driving it. Obviously everybody is different and sits differently so maybe I just haven't found that sweet spot yet? But as said above I am patiently waiting on my Amazon order and hope the lumbar / neck support thing I ordered works as well as advertised and as well as the reviewers say it does Besides the neck pain, this is the best car I have ever owned. The money I have saved on gas these last couple months compared to my truck pretty much cover a car payment! Love it!!
I also figured out the towel solution and I've been using it. But I don't want to spend a lot of money on a new car and have to drive it with a rolled up towel on the seat to be comfortable.
Also, people of all sizes have reported how they fit. I'm only 5'5'' 140 lbs and I've thought because I'm small might have something to do with it??
1979 Porsche 924, 1992 and 1995 Porsche 968, 1999 Ford Ranger, 2007 Ford F-150 XLT, 2016 Ford F-150 Lariat with AC/heat. My wife's 2016 Type 4 driver's seat is ok with me, but the passenger seat is terrible on long runs. She finds both seats uncomfortable.
I had a 2010 Prius with leather seats and I could drive all day and it was always comfortable. Before that I had a 2004 Prius with cloth seats and I don't recall any complaints with those either. It helps me in the 2016 to have the back straight up and the seat pulled up almost to the steering wheel. It makes it a little cramped but I don't move around so much. I sat in a Four today with the seat cushion adjustment and lumber and I think it would be better, but I'd have to drive it awhile to be sure.
I've got a Prius 2 and have no complaints about me seats. They are very comfortable, but then again I do like firm seats.
