wow! can you imagine what you could pick one up for - after there a year old or so? I do love me some depreciation ... but only when I'm on the advantageous side

this should depreciate the pip to no end, other than we have 5 seats and a full hatch.

Or, more likely, you still owe $16.1k on the car that is worth $10k (like a PiP), suddenly that Prime will cost you $28,100 (after tax incentives).

Being eligible for bigger incentives will have the Prime's initial depreciation be higher.

that's not depreciation. you can't depreciate what you don't pay. perhaps we're using the term too loosely anyway. but the pip lost a lot of value do to various reasons, prime will be the straw. whether prime will loose value quickly from price paid new will be determined by the marketplace.

Spoke with my local dealership here in Southern California, they mentioned that there is probably going to be a mark up on the Prime. Anyone else get the same response?

My 2015 Nissan Leaf SV had a $3k markup on the window sticker, yet I ended up paying about $3700 under sticker price (not including the $3500 finance rebate) by emailing dealerships to find the best quote. A markup on the Prius Prime wouldn't last long.

i doubt it. they should be so lucky. more likely, they'll try it, and when they get tired of listening to the crickets, the prices will start dropping like a rock. just like gen 4.
even when gen 2 had a 16 month backlog, they didn't go over msrp, at least around here.

+1 on the premiums, if true at most stealerships. The price gouging won't last too long, and there's always some dealers that will take the opposite tact and sell at less than sticker -- though they might load the car up with useless shiny trinkets to boost their bottom line. What two months is that "ToyotaFest" thing? They'll have to do something realistic by then I'd imagine.

I am willing to wait several months at least to see how this will all shake out. And I certainly don't want to buy a new car to go through this winter in Chicago. Spring will do just fine.

agreed, next spring/summer looks good. gas is still two bucks, i think there are 6 people here committed to buying one.
by next fall, they'll be 5k off.

Gas went up $0.30 today. Only reason I can see is planned maintenance at the Whiting refinery.

I'm committed, but it depends on trade value vs. what I owe on my '14. I might wait for model year 2 just to see what changes they might make. But I'm on board, sooner or later.
