    What does that have to do with anything?

    I gotta admit, However shameful it might seem to our fellow "waxaholics" on here I have only ever washed my Silver 2016 Three w/ ATP once since buying it 2 months ago!!! At a Drive thru Car wash at that!!!!!

    Silver is just so darn amazing at hiding dirt and grime that it actually is a stress reliever.. I owned a few black cars back to back some years ago...Such a pain the the butt.. Pollen season was fun, 45 seconds after washing it was "hang your head in shame time"!!

    My point is, Silver rocks!!!:cool:(y)

    This is a comparison shot of the luggage compartments of Ioniq all electric and the Prius Prime .
    Both claim they have 360 Liters of luggage space,but one can clearly see the Ioniq boot is way more spacious and 360 Liters seem to be far more realistic than in the Prime .
    So if Hyundai was capable of offering a relatively usable,spacious boot,although the all electric Ioniq carrys a battery which has at least 150 miles range and has a 5. seat why couldn't Toyota do better with their in comparison much smaller battery ?
    When the Ioniq Plug-in hits the market early next year,which will also offer a 5. seat ,the Prime better have the better tech to offer and be way more better than the Ioniq in Hybrid mode or it will be in trouble !

    That's because the Ioniq has its battery along the entire length of the car underneath and is being designed from the ground up as such. Put a gas tank, and engine (and all of its specialty pumps, filters and cooling - let's not forget their hi tech 6-speed transmission to join all of that together) and we'll see which one has more room. Now compare the Ioniq to a chevy Bolt and I'll be more impressed.

    That implies all else is the same, that no other tradeoffs were made... which is not the case.

    The rear seating area for Ioniq is quite a smaller. There is no doubt it is a compact, even if just 2 people are sitting in back.

    Toyota delivered a more powerful system too. Ioniq should manage just fine. But if you want more oomph, get a Prius Prime.

    Lastly, don't forget the often overlooked factor of dealer/salesperson interest. What will compel them to prefer Ioniq over their regular inventory?

    Now...

    Toyota = GM of old.
    GM = Toyota of old.

    Mare Barra has done more to make GM better in the last 2 years than Toyota for EV tech. She is no Wagoner. She certainly did not go full anti-EV like Toyota did.

    Toyota significantly ramped up lithium battery production and is about to rollout an affordable high-volume plug-in.

    How is that not a big supportive step forward?

    The electric and plug-on versions indeed have identical luggage compartments. It is a bit difficult to compare on the basis of these images, because of different angles of view and the way they are filled. It could be the PHV has a longer compartment, but flatter (under the tonneau cover).

    It is also not clear what the figures mean. Toyota usually uses L VDA, which is until the roof. The volume under the tonneau cover would then be closer to 280-300 L. I do not know which norm Hyundai uses.

    Anyway, to me too, its luggage compartment looks bigger.

    I hope the Ioniq Plug-in is also on the Paris show, and I'll ask membres of the PTC and Hybrid Life forums to check it out by making real measurements.

    I still don't see what this has to do with anything.

    I won't buy a pure EV (Bolt) because they are useless on many of my trips (including one yesterday). I won't buy a Volt because the back seat has no leg room, because the cargo area is too small and because it gets lousy mileage on gas.

    The way the 8.9 kWh battery is integrated into the Ioniq Plug-in has not been divulged. Some speculated it may be in two parts. One under the backseats, and one under the front part of the luggage compartment. By no way, it sits along the entire length underneath the car.

    It is true, however, that the Hyundai people did a better job then the Toyota ones. They may have used higher density cells, which Toyota may have judged not to have the required quality/life time for a PHEV yet.

    I thought I was responding about the EV, oops. I'll try to be a bit more explicit. It'll be interesting to see how Hyundai did their battery with their Plug-in. I believe @Trollbait also indicated that they use part of the battery to replace the 12V accessory battery (or maybe it was the EV) with part of the traction battery. It'll also be interesting to find out at what speed the ICE comes on since the motor is about the same size as the PiP (60 kW) but I'm sure they might let a bit more than 38 kW the PiP battery was capable of putting out.

    It was the hybrid that got rid of the 12 volt. Haven't heard about the plug ins on the matter.

    The electric motor of the Ioniq Plug-in is 45 kW (60 HP), up from 32 kW (43 HP) for the Hybrid. It will definitely be less powered then the Prime, since the latter can draw 68 kW (101 HP) from its battery in the dual motor pure EV mode.

    if that is really the hatch of the all 3 ironique's, they did a masterful job, but i would have to sit in the backseat to know for sure.

    For the Ioniq, Hyuandai decided to rather sacrifice the backseat space. Boothspace for hte Electric and Plug-in is 3 cb.ft smaller then that of the Hybrid.

    That may have been a good decision in the eyes of families with small children.

    it's a tough call, every mfg seems to have to compromise somewhere. in the end, hopefully, there will be a car for every need.
