first, id like to thank you all for any help that you could provide!

I've been wanting a prius for the last two years after watching them fly by me every morning in the hov lane. if your not familiar, long island rush hour traffic could be horrible at times.

I've been doing a ton of reading up and I've basically decided on a third generation prius. specifically, i found a 2013 with 105k on the dash for 9K. being at that mileage point, I'm a little weary of potential problems coming up

from the looks of the car fax. the seller was constantly at the dealer (same toyota) for maintenance and checks, sometimes in consecutive months. i understand that they were putting 30K a year on the car but being at the dealer 6 times in the last 8 months seems a little excessive.

does anything seem odd with that or should i be happy that he was on top of his services with the car.

again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome the PriusChat!

Depends but some people are more contankerous than others. I've read threads on here about people complaining about headrests, seats that jiggle as the car moves, etc. with the prevailing theme being they just bought a new car and everything should be perfect. So they take it back and let the dealer look at it. Then something else bothers them and the cycle repeats until it gets traded in.

My brother had a 2010 Prius IV for a couple of years. Bought it off lease with 27 k on the clock. Put about 20 k on it before trading it in. He's the type that wants everything to be perfect and would go got the selling dealer frequently for what he would have an "issue" with:rolleyes:. My advise was this is not a luxury car and these things will happen all of which were minor in nature. He ended up trading it in on an Acura;).

A 2012 with 105 k on the clock suggests good driving. Car fax is clean? $9 k sounds like a good price if so. Had it spent its life in New York, or somewhere else? If in the northeast, expect components to get rusty and do a good look around. A good mechanic could also be consulted, one familiar with hybrids do a good diagnostic scan can be performed.

If you are looking at a car with over 100 k miles, maintenance is key and be willing to either DIY with some of the videos and support here, or understand potential maintenance items required to keep the Prius running a long time.

    Good luck(y).

welcome! does the car fax not tell you what each service entails? if not, you can plug the vin into the toyota owners site i believe, and see service detail.

so in your guys opinion, would you rather take a 2013 with 100K miles or a 2010 with 100K miles?

@breezy315 if you can edit the post #4, I'd suggest in advanced editing, there's a button saying to place all the image in the post. First place your cursor where you want them, then hit that button.

This'll make it a lot easier to read these, because currently there's a bug on the site: clicking the files as they are currently, they're viewable for a few seconds only.

Other than not knowing what "vehicle serviced" means on 1/28/16, the rest of the items look like standard maintenance. It's probably a well maintained auto. The question is what might be coming up as an anticipated major repair at that mileage.

Perhaps setting up an account at Toyota owners site then adding the car, thus revealing actual service records would be of value in this case?

this car has had major maintenance work performed, which is great. the only thing i don't see is oil changes after 50k, but i think some portions are cut off in the pics.

i would prefer the 2013. how much is the 2010?

Here's a workaround for the image viewing bug, click this and the image pops-up in a new window.

I have a 2010 with 140 k miles and enjoy it. As @bisco said, what is the price of the 2010? And what is the vehicle history? If you have a choice between a known history and an unknown vehicle history, I would go for the known.

But if vehicle histories are the same and the price difference between the 2 is negligible, the 2013 would be a good choice. Some say that a new generation can lead to working some bugs out, which you would avoid with a 2013. Not sure about the mid gen refreshes, but you'll get some upgrades from that most likely such as a back up camera standard ( my Prius II does not have that).

The 2010-2013 is essentially the same generation model. Like 2004-2009 is the 2nd gen but small modifications and improvements started showing up on 06 models as you can tell if it's an 04 or 05 with the absents of the Hybrid Synergy Drive Badges on the sides. I would assume the 2010 would be much cheaper than the 2013.
