I had to drive a bit too close to the kerb down a narrow street after some silly driver coming from the other direction was about to scrape my car. The plastic wheel trim got all scratched up and looks awful.

Anyway, so I popped into my Toyota dealer here in London to get a new replacement plastic wheel trim for my 15 inch wheels (as I want to keep my car looking new)

None in stock, and if he ordered it today, it would arrive in 69 days time. "Oh, sir, if you choose express delivery (raising total price by 10%), we can get it for you in only 10 days. It has to come from very far away you see, and they take a lot of room in our parts room, hence we don't stock them."

Is this going to be the same story for other parts for the Gen 4?

I'm really curious: how much was it?

I scraped one of the plastic inserts on my 2004 Prius early in its long life. Later one of them cracked and no longer would securely fasten to the wheel. The solution was to remove all 4 and go naked.

I tried to sell the four of mine for $100.00 plus shipping - I'm sure that is a fraction of Toyota's price...

That's not bad, converts to $53 Canadian dollars, $41 US. Still an affront considering what they are, but that's how it is. I'd be tempted to pay the extra.

With our 3rd gen the 15" rims with wheel covers were more-or-less the sole motivator that pushed us to the (bare) 17" rim model. And now with the 2016 they've all got plastic. :(

Sounds about right on the price, the Gen 2 trims are also about that. I would try another dealer, some of them may have stock.

I don't recall ever hitting a curb. But with the new Prius 3 month old I was going down the circular ramp in my parking garage I hit one and dinged it up. I was going to take them off but they do protect the wheel.

There's a problem with that: they cost almost as much as an aftermarket rim. Bumpers are similar. They used to be, well: bumpers. Then they turned into black plastic fairings spray painted body color, and every little tap you're looking at $500~1000 to repair.

It's difficult to damage the 17" alloy wheels, the tyres have rim protectors on them that stick out. I guess you may not be able to mount the 15" wheel trim if you put 15" tyres with rim protectors on, if they sell 15" with rim protectors.

I sold mine on eBay for $40 plus $15 shipping fee. That's for all four

For that price, I would just keep them.
