Unlike third gen where the battery was further back, basically under the leading edge of the hatch floor, the 4th gen battery is right under the seat, could be auxiliary air intake??

Possibly, but I wonder why the big difference in size? I'm going to make sure my rubber mat doesn't block it.

Good to know it is there because I have a bunch of reusable grocery bags on the back seat floor and they all got thrown to the driver's side when I read about the vent on the passenger side. Mine would have been blocked constantly for the last 2 weeks.

Have you seen the two round tubes under each front seat? The heater/AC plumbing. Mine barely put out any air, even with the fan turned up high, and the vent selector set to "floor." Glad I don't have any back seat passengers in winter time... they would be two frozen pieces of
i tried the Kleenex experiment. I powered up the car, it didn't suck in or blow out. Maybe the car has to be moving? I also turned on the fan, and put the vent selector to various positions. No change. So it doesn't appear the mystery vent is related to the AC/Heat.

    Just another Prius oddity...

There's a picture in the Las Vegas unveil picture gallery, Tideland or someone pulled the rear seat right off and got a pic or two of the battery. Maybe if you can find that (it's a big gallery) it'll shed light??

I was thinking... Maybe the mystery vent is really a speaker? It's where they pipe in the "engine growl" sound. Like they do on the Dodge Charger and Mustang.

Oh well, we can let this thread ride off into the sunset.

I'm enjoying playing with my new horns. Especially in a tunnel under the airport runway. They echo in there, and it sounds like I'm driving an '84 Mercury Marquis! :ROFLMAO:

Mine has it too - but it's absolute centre of the back seat:

Perhaps it is the intake vent for when you elect to recirculate air within cabin.

If not, we need to find another vent!

Gen 4 climate control has a button to favor the front seat over the rear seat occupants. When you noted barely any heat coming out under the front seats, what was the setting of this switch/button?

maybe it's taking cabin air to ventilate the rear fusion, since the battery is right there.

You are correct, thanks. I forgot to turn off the "front occupants only" button. It seems to always go back to the "default setting" (front only) when the car is started.

I like to keep my AC on both front/rear, in order to possibly get a little more air going in the back for hybrid battery cooling.
