How's the Moonstone Holding Up?

It seems like there are more owners going for Moonstone in the Gen 4 than owners going for Misty Grey in the Gen 3 (it was two-tone for 2010/2011).

How have they held up to summer duties? Do you find you have to clean them up more often? Or does the SofTex make it a bit easier to keep it clean?

I see Toyota, Tesla and Mazda are the few offering white/black interiors. You don't choose them unless you have another vehicle for dirty stuff like hiking or bringing home fish or hauling things from Home Deport/local garden store. So my question is whether SofTex makes it easier to maintain such an interior vs. leather or cloth fabric.

Without a doubt softex would be easier to maintain and keep clean than the fabric Moonstone interior.

I really wonder how the fabric Moonstone are holding up? Getting a stain out of the almost white fabric has to be more difficult and has to look more grimy over time. With softex you can just wipe it down with a cleaning product, as opposed to fabric where you have to really work a stain and hopefully don't make it worse..

With that said I currently own a Gen 4 with black fabric interior. My last Prius was the Persona with the black softex and it was very easy to clean, to the point where there was no concerns. Dog, French fries, whatever. It would just wipe down.

But I also own a 2014 v three with the light interior fabric (wife's car) and it is looking pretty gross and is in need of a good cleaning....

I was seriously considering a Moonstone softex equipped Gen 4 but could not find the trim / color combination I wanted and fell into a good deal on my Silver three w/ ATP... The moonstone softex does really look classy..

I got Moonstone interior with my 3T. I like it very much. A co-worker bought 4 Blizzard Pearl with black interior. And I wanted something lighter. I have the car for one month now, no problems with SofTex. Looks like new. It is easy to maintain, almost the same as leather. In regards of bringing fish and such, we did the same as in Gen 2 - bought Clear Mats (they are called differently now, forgot the exact name). I got a set of 5 - for both front and back mats, as well as for the cargo area. They fit perfectly as they produce them for a specific model. You put them on the top of your regular mats, and don't even see them as they are clear. Then you put fish and everything else on those mats.

I have no issues at all with my Moonstone interior. I get compliments all the time from people I drive in it. They love the style and color combo.

A black interior to me seems....boring. There's nothing that stands out.

I'm glad Toyota got rid of Harvest Beige. Yuck!

I have the Moonstone fabric seats on a model three. I have had no problems at all after 5 months. I am in the process of doing a video on the interior especially the seats. I find the center black console is always getting noticeable smudges on it and almost everyday has to be cleaned. Whereas the seats I never have to do anything. I rarely have anyone else in the car so I am mostly using the drivers seat. And I do use the rear left passenger seat a lot to eat my lunch and use my phone when I take a break from my daily walks.

Our 2005 had the Bisque cloth interior so it was a beige/black combo. It wasn't too bad for the first 4-5 years then it started looking bad (but by then I wasn't the primary user of that car either). The Gen 2 had some pretty thin fabric covering the door and centre console.

My 2010 has the dark grey leather because I wanted something more durable and thicker. After 7 years, it practically looks new (not exaggerating). Of course it helps that I'm still the primary user of the vehicle and maintain it religiously (Cleaning up the mud or sunscreen after transporting friends as quickly as possible).

My parents picked up a Gen 4 w/ black SofTex. It looks nice but like 4rp15 says, it's a bit boring. The door panels show a lot of scuffs (the soft-touch plastic part on the front doors). I also like the design of the Moonstone where they have the black inserts for the front seats, esp. in SofTex. It makes it look a bit sportier than a plain black colour. That's why I'm asking about Moonstone. My biggest concern is the all white seat bottom (mostly denim rub-off and dirt from people kicking the back seat during ingress/egress.

ExactMats? Canadian spec cars come with both carpet and all weather rubber mats so I just need to get one for the cargo area if I end up with a Gen 4 or a Prime. (Both our Gen 2 and 3s have carpeted cargo mats. My parents' Gen 4 has a cargo liner)

Yeah that's why I'm considering Moonstone but I'm just concerned about the all-white seat bottom in particular (and I guess anywhere else where dirt may show). I have a Dark Grey leather interior for my 2010 and it's holding up really well.

    Harvest Beige is still available.

    Awesome, thanks!

Interesting. I find the soft-touch front door panels are getting scuffs on my parents' Gen 4. (mostly just the hand or elbow brushing it).

When you're over 60, it's all good. I sit in it, I drive it, and nobody gives a Flying Fish Fart! :ROFLMAO:

(Although, I did have one younger woman go running and screaming when I went to pick her up... "OMG! That old dude has Beige interior!!!!!!" :p)

I immediately replaced the cloth in both my Prius moonstones with leather. No problems with cleaning. :)

I am not quite there yet (in terms of age :)). But I too like Beige. Before Gen 4 I had Gen 2 'driftwood / leather beige' and liked it very much. As a matter of fact I was looking for it with Sea Glass Pearl. But there was nothing around me. Moonstone was my second choice.

Actually, an interesting story happened with this color. After my wife and I converged on 'Sea Glass' we started to look for model 4. So we went to a dealer (So Ca), and the guy said there were none around. There was just ONE of that color and trim 4 in Las Vegas (and that was the only one within 500 miles). My wife half seriously suggested we should go to Vegas. Then we started to look for 3T (really did not want cloth seats in 3). I checked inventory of maybe 10 dealerships around me, and found none! I finally found one. As Buddhists say: Path is easy for those who have no preferences! But for us it was not easy, as we did have preferences. At the end it is all good, even we had to pay a bit more, but we got combination of colors that we both love.

Moonstone is a bit hard to clean. I'm afraid to try anything other than mild soap and water. As much as my kid kick the back of my seat, I'm interested to hear what better methods are out there.

Mine are holding up fine....but that said, I'm constantly fighting the urge to eat wild wings in the drivers seat.

If they replicated the moonstone look in leather I'd buy it in a millisecond. That, would look AWESOME.

I was longing for my leather seats and wheel of 2007. But after a month of driving I am getting used to SofTex touch and feel, and actually appreciate it.

Good to hear. I'm ok with SofTex but it depends on the texture. (It varies between the Prius c to the Prius, to the Camry and to the RAV4 EV. They all feel different).

I do like my leather-wrapped wheel on my Gen 3 but I appreciate the temperature-regulated properties on the SofTex-wrapped wheel on the Gen 4 (esp. in the winter).

I like my Moonstone/Black interior however within a couple weeks after getting it I noticed a black mark on the back of the front seat made by the umbrella handle I stuffed in the seat pocket. Have tried everything I know of and can't get it off.

Aye, sorry to hear that. Note to self, don't keep an umbrella in the back seat.
