I have a 4 as well and want to get a spare as well. Could you please post a picture so I can see how it goes in and looks? Did you have to get a new form that fits the tire? Is there any rise in the hatch back floor section? . . . Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    so, krousedb or anyone-
I am getting ready to pull the trigger on the spare in a non spare trim- Still undecided re: cutting the original foam or springing for the trim 3 foam package - Only hurdle is that rolling toneau cover- I don't think the trim 3 has a place for it since it has the fabric cover rather than the roller one. So, my question is: could one use a router to carve a recess into the trim 3 foam cover, or could one raise the modified trim 4 foam high enough to be able to route a recess for the cover that would sit on top of the spare- (seems this would also serve to level the cargo area floor?) I really want to be able to carry that toneau cover hidden and protected for when I need it unexpectedly.

For those of you with a 3 or 3 Touring, is there an open space (or a "usable" space in your rear foam where a cutout could be made for the roll-up toneau cover?

For those following this thread, I posted the part numbers for the trim 3 foam pieces in another thread. I have since talked w/ a parts guy and looked at his exploded diagram from the Toyota parts catalog- and it looks like a simple swapout- The 3 pieces cost between $400 and $450 plus shipping - which can be over a hundred bucks depending on where you are. if you google the part numbers you will find several places selling- They seem to ship from California or ?Chicago.

    Thanks for all comments!

A router should work. Use a small diameter bit and set the router speed to its lowest setting. If you have a vacuum attachment, use it. You want to get those cut pieces from heating up and melting. Also make shallow cuts until you get a feel for it. You'll also want to create a template to keep the router from cutting where you don't want. And use a shop vac frequently to suck out the waste in your grooves. There are many ways to do that. The easiest is with a template set for the router. They don't cost a lot. The guiding template cutting piece is mounted on the router. You make a 1/8" to 1/4" inch thick plywood template and cut the sized hole you want sized just bigger than what you need (the difference between your router template guide and the cutting bit) Or you can build a barrier type from a sheet of plywood. Build up barriers with 1/2" to 1" thick wood so the router base is kept from going outside a specific region. When making this type of template, I use screws to attach the wood guides.

Now... I've never done this on Toyota foam. So, I'm just offering advice based on my experience in cutting plastics and wood. Plastics do melt and wood can burn. The key is to not let the material stay in contact with a spinning blade.

I want to order a donut spare. Are there any numbers I need to use when I look for one? My Prius has 15" tires.

I bought 4 Gen 3 wheels and purchased tire from Sears and had it mounted. I don't ride spare around, wife ever has a problem all she has to do is call and I'll be there with full size spare. Ebay probably have some, also your local Craigslist might be an option.

Wanting to get a donut spare for my 4. The compact spare shown in the owner's manual (pg740) has the following written on it "T125/70D17 98M". Do you know if this will fit my 4 with 15inch wheels or does the "17" indicate that it's for a car with 17 inch wheels? I know nothing about donut spare tires, but want one before taking any long trips. Any and all advice is most welcome.

I'd strongly suspect there's one spare for both 15" and 17" tire equiped cars. There's only one owners manual, one spare size specd.

What's in the blue (static?) bag? On my Eco the rectangular cutout was empty. Is there supposed to be and OEM item there?

It looks like the blue bag contains the front license plate bracket.

I know I am late to the party on this but I am researching doing this retro fix like you have. Can you tell me what you used to cut the styrofoam and padding underneath? Did you use a handsaw, jigsaw or a hot knife? Thanks

Well down! Interestingly my 2016 Gen4 came with a doughnut spare. Maybe Canadian winters came into play when Toyota spectrum out the cars for here? On the other hand, while I did not have a flat in perhaps 40 years, our iMiEV has only a well hidden inflator kit. I told my wife not to bother just call CAA and have the car towed to our favored tyre shop.

There's only "level" in the Canadian Prius lineup that nixes the spare, the "technology" level, with "advanced package". I just happen to have my brochure here.
