Would you rather buy a 2008 Prius with 100k miles or a 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage with 40k miles?

    There's a big difference between these two statements:

    Designed to last 80k miles max...is NOT....

    60K to 80K before you start losing fuel economy. -(which I don't agree with anyway)

    Not once. These kinds of batteries just don't up and die on you. It takes time for a battery to actually die as your battery degrades slowly as you will notice gradual MPG drops, the battery monitor showing the bars consistently dropping and not holding a charge for very long. My battery is healthy as it was like new and when driving for long periods of time I have all green bars.

    Just so I'm clear, you don't have to plug your Prius into anything external in order to charge it, yes?

    Lol and how do you know? Prove it?. I get pretty high MPGs. I have screen shots of that if I want rub that in your face.
    And you know I have an electronics background and can take the battery pack out and take each module out to check the voltage if needed.

    Well having good mpg does not mean you have a healthy battery. That's why battery failures are hard to see coming, the mpg doesn't go down much. A symptom of a weak battery is having all green bars on the soc, as you've described

    And checking voltages also doesn't tell you if the module is healthy. I think you should stop talking right about now. Not doing your electronics background any favors

    Lol that means it's fully charged as I was going down a long sloppy Hwy coasting and gliding. 98% of the time it stays in Purple.

    Agian I'm not here worrying about my battery dying. I bought the car for a reason. If people complain and worry so much about Hybrid batteries, then why are they even on here? Just drive the car and enjoy it like a normal car. A car is a car. Every car is going to have problems. My friend has to pay 3k to replace his transmission in his Honda Civic. Same difference.

    Well a healthy battery stays in the middle 5 or 6 bars most of the time. Weak batteries with lost capacity will charge faster and discharge faster. That's why you see a weak battery showing full charges easily. When in fact it takes a long time for a healthy battery to charge to green bars.

    My original HV battery lasted 250k (10 yrs). There was no noticeable decrease in fuel economy (50+ MPG) until it stopped working. Although I have noticed a slight (2+ MPG) improvement after battery replacement.

    Think of weak battery as a flattened plastic water bottle, which can also get full (green bar). However, it does not have much "capacity" to hold energy.

    And that only happened one time lol. I think it's time to hang it up now. I'm not the one complaining about a battery on here. I'm here to bring some insight not negativity. You appear to be attempting to manipulate new people away from buying a "Prius" , when this is in fact a "Prius" website not Honda, not BMW or what's not. They are great cars. It makes no sense to bash a Prius and be on here. I'm sorry if you had bad experiences, but it ain't my problem. Why buy a Prius if you are that damn concerned? That's like why buy a Mercedes Benz if worried all the computer modules are going to die? We buy cars to use them not worrying about every part that's going to die some x miles. Just sayn

    The age of the car doesn't mater. So when the 3rd Prius becomes 10 years old, are you going to bitch and complain about that one? Lol it's a car man, cars are cars. Every car you buy no matter what brand model or type is going to have issues at some point in life. It's part of life and normal wear and tear. All this same stuff can be applied to a BMW, Telsa S Model etc. It took well over an hour to get to green driving straight consistently going 55 mph on a long hwy as that's normal. When i'm in town driving on the main roads it stays in Purple. That's a heathy battery. I could careless worrying about my Hybrid battery pack dying, because it's not something I'm going to be replacing every 3 years. I wouldn't bough this car in the first place if it was that bad. The 2nd gen is commonly used by Taxi companies as there are hundreds and thousands of them on the road still kicking it. The Google Self Driving car is a 2nd Prius. They are very realible cars if Taxi companies chooses them. I rather drive a Prius than a money pit lemon car.

    From most standpoints the Prius is the no brainer out of the two. For starters, you're talking about a 2008 versus a 2 year old car. The 2008 has fully depreciated and will maintain much of its value, while the newer car will rapidly decline in value.

    You have way more space in the prius than in an econobox. The prius is a road worthy car that you can take anywhere and almost always get over 40 mpg in doing so.

    You can find a 2008 prius in the sub 4k range all day and it will hold nearly that value for a couple of years. If you buy a 2 year old econobox car and drive that a couple years, it will depreciate by thousands and you'll have less space and inferior fuel economy.
