Neither, because neither exist yet. All we know is what they -might- look like.

I'm guessing the Rav4 has fine print like the Highlander about it not being intended for off road use.

I would rather get the matrix array headlights, and the vehicle to vehicle/vehicle to infrastructure communication.

We also (potentially) get it for a cheaper price.

    Not to mention

    1. LED Array headlights aren't DOT approved because the law doesn't exist

    2. The solar panel roof is an expensive option for its use (someone mentioned it's a $3,000 option)

    3. Density of CHAdeMO chargers isn't there.

    4. V2V. With whom? And V2I doesn't exist. Although Audi is trying with the new A4.

    Prius. To go before.

    1. It's a matter of time before there's a law. Shouldn't take much, and existing headlights are not good enough.

    2. Expensive gimmick. Not wanted.

    3. Not a big issue IMO.

    4. Again, a matter of time. It's coming, why not be ready. Prius. To go before.

    1. You'd think so but LED array headlights have been on Audis for a few years now. The US is behind. I think BMW was just allowed to import the i8 with laser headlights (previously it used HID)

Not getting those is about available infrastructure and option prices.

I'd like to see a 2 seat, convertible with the hybrid synergy drive. A la MR2.

BMW developed the laser headlights a few years ago. DOT wouldn't allow them - they light up the road too well.

If BMW is able to import the i8 with them I hope the auto press give them a lot of coverage so the general public will be able to actually see what the feds are preventing from being introduced

Considering the IIHS's report on headlight effectiveness, lighting up the road too well is far from the problem most cars have.

I use a regular Gen 3 on Costco/Sam's/BJ's/Lowes/HD runs all the time. What do you pick up in the regular Prius that won't fit and how often?

If I carried 3 adults in the back regularly, I'd look for something larger but for occasional use it's fine. Leg room seems to be OK with 6'3" people front and back (maybe a bit less in the center). Width seems likely be more of an issue with 3 in the back.

I'm sure the squared rear of the v comes in handy at times, but I think the better rear headroom is a bigger draw for families with older kids.

I am just one data point, but if you look at my avatar, you can see I had to load my ladders with the (dirty) feet into the back of the seats as the roof sloped so they did not fit feet back. The v solved that and the back of my seats are cleaner for it. (I do not hang out with humans, so head room is kinda academic for me)

A fact that the DOT doesn't seem to be able to revise standards quickly enough to resolve. That is if they are even trying to improve automobile technology. It almost seems that the bureaucracy exists solely for the bureaucracy sake.

PS, I worked for the DOT for 16 years at the Volpe Center in Cambridge, MA.

The european v has what .... SEVEN seats? Why sell Toyota short? What about a Prime model v becoming the Prius to offer 7 seats ...
THAT'd be a major winner too.
