Only Mobil 1 For My Prius

If I want to buy Mobil 1, in bottles, it's over $10 a US quart. Or I can buy bottled liters of Toyota 0W20, currently for $5.91. Or bulk liters of Toyota 0W20, for $4.50. Easy decision.

 

I just saw the 5 QT jug of Mobil-1 0W-20 at Walmart. $22.88. If you buy individual bottles, each quart was $7.49? (How much oil does the Gen4 take? 4.3?)

I always brought the big Mobil-1 jug with me to the dealer when I got oil changes for the Camry. Went to 3 different dealers. And each time, the engine smelled like burning oil for about 3 weeks after! Those guys can't even pour in oil without spilling it. But they probably don't like lifting that heavy jug and emptying it.

 

I did that with my 2008 Prius. I'm out of that business now. Toyota oil is gonna be good enough for me from now on.

 

Kind of like that for everything in life. Hospital, doctor, restaurant, medications, booze, food, contaminated products from a country some where. We need to make our own medications from scratch as well as processed food. Some things you can't go cheap on.

And all those years, I brought my own oil to the dealer, and they only subtracted about five bucks off the bill!

But I do like Mobil-1.
Used it for 21 years in two Camrys. And those cars never ever burned a drop of oil. The hard part, is just finding someone who is competent to change it!

 

Kind of like chicken soup. Can't hurt.

 

That Toyota Owner's website is nice. It shows dealer service specials in your zip code. Or you can click on "show more specials" and several more dealers will be listed.
Oil change specials can vary by $20 or so.

Some dealers offer a "Mobil-1 synthetic oil upgrade" for a higher price. I want synthetic oil in my Prius... is Toyota brand 0W-20 oil not synthetic?

So, how much did everyone pay for an oil change at the dealer? And did you specifically ask for 0W-20 synthetic oil? Or did you just assume they will get it right...

I've seen "synthetic oil change specials" for $59 to $89.

I'm at 6 months / 5,000 miles right now. I think I will get the first change now, and pay for it.

I did that. I added an extra oil change at about 3000 miles to clean out the manufacturing "Gunk" that may have been in the crankcase.

 

Ditto. Had a $20 coupon so it was 42 for the 5k change

I think it's a good idea. Can't hurt. Also, because my driving is so many short trips. The dang car probably never even heats up.
