Some issues, I'm willing to discuss offline. But I don't think that this forum is the right place to warrant more than a passing mention.

I am pretty close to your reasons for purchase. I love good tech. I like low cost maintenance. I have a healthy disgust for dropping $1200 every time I take it into the dealer. Oh... and it gets really good mileage. That's not a bad thing even with low gas prices. I was considering the Prius or a Rav4 hybrid. I finally decided on the Prius because it's a mature platform. I feel confident that it will work reliably for a very long time. Oh... and it is pretty cool inside. I'm okay with a wimpy car. I don't care about the "driving experience." So the marketers at Toyota have me pegged on that one.

 

Speak you mind. Anything goes here. Just ask bisco.

And don't let the dealer talk you into any unnecessary maint. Just do what it says in the owner's manual maint schedule.

 

RE: A vegan coworker overheard this discussion and walked over to join in and opened with "you shouldn't be driving a Prius if you're not vegan."

If you get asked this again, ask your vegan coworker to explain just how being vegan equates with driving a Prius. I'd love to hear his or her answer for this, if indeed this person even has a rational rationale for it.

 

I am a 1 degree vegan. I only eat animals that eat vegetables.

 

My salesman tried to offer me a "Tofu Wrap" while waiting for the paperwork to get finished.

I almost walked out of that place!

(That dealer is now out of business. He sold out, or bailed out.)

 

My brother was vegan for a period of time. We had the "pleasure " of having tofu turkey one year at the thanksgiving dinner table. Thankfully my mother had the wisdom to freeze what was not eaten and served it for Christmas dinner.

My brother is a meat eater now.

 

I use to work with a militant vegan/peta woman who wouldn't even wear makeup she was so "hard core". I laughed/mocked her for years along with the rest of the office even after she moved on. A couple of years ago, I saw her again and was shocked when she mention reaching retirement age. CRAP, she looked 50ish. That's when I stopped mocking her, her lifestyle and began my personal research into diet/fitness.

 

Yes, there's certainly nothing wrong with eating healthy.

But when it comes to food helping "appearance", nothing will help guys like me that were born looking like the nice person end of rhinoceros!

 

I think I just got through the cycle of explanation and acceptance from my friends and family over the "vegan" thing. Now I went and bought a Prius. Here we go again.

 

I joke about being a "Vegan." Nothing wrong with it at all! The truth is, I just like meat. Especially turkey and chicken... Are those considered "meat" or bird?! And I love fish. And sweets!

I'm kinda half way healthy...

(Sure wish I had a chocolate cupcake right now!)

21-DAY VEGAN MEAL PLAN - WEEK 1 | The Physicians Committee

 

I've been vegetarian for a year and a half, had a hybrid Yaris for 2 and a half years and I'm awaiting a Prius to be delivered. Both are just a coincidence, my partner has been vegetarian for years and I'd only been eating meat when going out for a meal or the occasional pie. What finally drove me over the edge was the horse meat scandal alongside the fact that most chicken has campylobacter on it in its uncooked state. Being that I had effectively eating vegi for the last couple of years it wasn't that hard to go completely. Now vegan that's just to hardcore for me.

On the car side it was 3 things that drove my decision, one being the environment and the other was financial. The Prius is costing me the same a month in overal cost as the Yaris, due to a work tax saving scheme. The third is I love gadgets and the Prius is just one big gadget.

 

I would never buy and cook all that Vegan stuff at home. Not just for myself. (The oatmeal is fine. And the fruit/berries.)

Just give me a simple turkey burger for lunch.

 

I hate TOFU. But need to loose 700 pounds.

Everyone was TOFU fighting.

BTW young folks don't get the cool-aid jokes. We really don't learn from history anymore.

 

Is a Prius driver allowed to enjoy a couple glazed donuts, and a nice warm apple fritter?

 

I am with Bisco, bear claws are to die for with a few hot glazed in the mix and a raspberry filled.
