Went to the UK for a short trip, got hit by a HGV while travelling around a roundabout at a motorway junction. He hit me he while he was changing lanes, said he didn't know I was there until his proximity alert went off. Impact was on the right rear door while I was doing about 30mph so not exactly fast. The car pulled to the right but then corrected itself and straightened up, hitting some street furniture on the left as it did so, which took out the light and took the wing mirror off. Thankfully there was a police weighbridge on that roundabout so I rolled to a stop in there and the HGV pulled up on the hard shoulder of the roundabout. Police helped us exchange details and while they were speaking to the lorry driver, I went and collected my wing mirror. Amazingly it all snapped back into place, a bit like a model kit. Didn't even look scratched. Less than a month on the road... gutted. The car is in the process of being repatriated back to Belgium and I'm stuck as a pedestrian for the next few weeks. My insurance only covers me for a replacement car while mine is being repaired, but until it reaches the dealer on the 28th I'm out of luck. I've been told that even though it was a relatively low-speed crash and what only looks like a couple of damaged wheels and cosmetic damage, it could well be scrapped depending on the force of the impact. In which case I'm covered for a brand new replacement. Would suck having to wait another 3-4 months though. First ever accident and it had to be with the new car...
Ouch... We had our 2016 Prius v Three a month and three days when someone ran into the back of the car as traffic slowed through a construction site. My wife was really upset needless to say. We have since had the car repaired by the other guys insurance company... Good luck with the repair and hope no one was hurt...
Man, not a red one. That is my favorite color. Hope you get a new red one. The frame/unibody could be bent in several places.
Wow. See my 8 posts by mistake got put into images. Anyway I think I said you may have unibody damage that could be hard to fix. Heartbreaking to see a red bite the dust
@Hoddie sorry to hear about that! I hope it will be fixed properly (or you end up with a replacement soon). Glad to hear you're ok.
Sorry this happen . Hope you can get a new one. With my Gen 3 I got blindside twice fully stop on traffic light. It scary the hit from behind at the same time trying not to hit the car in front of me . I am on alert when ever I stop on traffic light now. Good luck . Main thing that you came out fine. Thanks for the best wishes everyone. We did indeed walk away unscathed though it was scary as hell for a few seconds obviously. I honestly thought we were going to hit a lamp post head on but we were buffeted away by the barrier which I suppose is why it's there... I think on reflection it was the lamp post that took out the wing mirror. I've had a dashcam in my old Prius for a couple of years now but the dealer didn't have time to move it across to the new one before we left for the UK. Just typical that something happened the minute I don't have a camera in place. Still, I don't suppose it would have helped in this case. This accident has persuaded me that I need a rear-facing cam in addition to the front-facing one I already own. I'm kinda hoping they have to scrap the car so we get a new one, though I know that would be a terrible waste. But otherwise I'll always be wondering whether the car is at its best or still suffering some after-effects of the crash.
i'm sure if they scrap it, someone will rebuild it, or part it out. not much waste likely. glad you're okay!
Sorry to hear your accident. Glad to hear no one is hurt though. No airbag came out? The car looks like repair would cost less than the new car. Definitely know the feeling that it is better to get a replacement new car than having it fixed. I got rear ended few months back that pushed my car 60 feet forward from an almost stopped position. My trunk shrank 2 feet with both passengers' doors stuck and the exhaust pipe sticking through the bumper. The insurance company was even thinking it could be repaired. I was sure pretty mad about that. At the end, the damage adjuster decided it would cost more to repair than paying out my 9 years old car. Hope all work out at the end for you!!
Sorry to hear about this. , Especially occurring with a new vehicle. I'd be extremely Xxxxx. Hopefully the Americans on here understood what a roundabout and hgv is. Lol. I'm guessing about 10k ukpounds worth of damage if not more. SM-G928T ?
