Audi won't be too far behind (it'll probably just change the e-Tron name to a brand).

Mercedes Benz a 100 plus year old company up against a Tesla, I will put my money on Mercedes Benz coming out on top, lets face it prestige is still important to folks.

Because people want one of these

    Over one of these

Tesla already has that prestige, and Mercedes EVs will have to go through Mercedes dealers.

So you think Tesla has the same prestige as a Mercedes? Take a drive through Beverly Hills, and tell me how many Mercedes you count compared to Tesla! Actually take the same drive and count how many Prius there are to Tesla! ;)

First of all, I welcome the addition of a Mercedes electric vehicle (in the future) that will have a driving range equal to the range available in the Tesla Model S today. Based on frequent statements from Tesla's management team, I suspect they welcome the competition because it will give consumers choices on the path to sustainable transportation and getting people to move to vehicles that can be powered by sustainable sources of energy is one of their corporate goals.

Since Mercedes has been selling their large sedans for many years and Tesla has been selling the model S for only a few years, I would expect that one would see more Mercedes large sedans in most places, if one were to "stand on a corner and count cars as they come down the street". U.S. sales figures for the last year tell a different story and one that suggests that people who buy $100,000 cars are buying Tesla Model S rather than Mercedes S-Class. A link to a summary of those figures: Tesla Model S Outsells Mercedes, BMW, Audi, And Porsche In US - Gas 2

For those who don't have the time to review the story
    [IMG]

About the same total number of cars were sold in 2015 versus 2014, but Tesla is up 51% in sales volume year over year while all the other cars in the same price class are down between 4.6% and 16.6% and in 2015 more Tesla Model S cars were sold than any other individual model in this large "luxury vehicle" class, including the previously best selling Mercedes S-Class.

I would say Tesla currently has much more prestige than Mercedes. This may change once more cheap Tesla's get on the road.

To add, how many of those Mercedes are the 'cheap' ones that Tesla doesn't currently have a competitor to for sale yet?
How many of those Mercedes owners have a deposit down on a Model 3?

Comparing three, too many 'parachute' air inlets to increase drag:
    Also, too many door handles.

Fewer and smaller 'parachute' air inlets:
An acceptable number of door handles although Tesla does it better:
Door handles should not be hanging in the breeze and minimize the parachute openings.

The Mercedes B-class electric is like the Rav4 EV; an ICE converted to electric by Tesla.

A rather have a little drag than spend 4 digits to fix a door handle so I get into a car again.

BlackBerry and Nokia were once the top cell phone companies, yet they refused to adapt to change. Not saying Mercedes will go out of business, but it will be very hard for a traditional company to take back Tesla's appeal for the EV market (plus it's all concept talk until you can actually buy one).
