In the gen 4 prius manual it says the key fob can control windows rolling down (not up in u.s.) but the dealer has to turn this function on. No idea why it would be disabled by default. Took it to the dealer today and they programmed it for free. Windows now roll down using just the fob and I can roll them up by using the actual key, sticking it in the door lock and holding the key in the "locked" position... Thought id share!

You can programme this with the Cartista app, rolling them up too.

Yeah, that's what I did to mine. I can roll them down with the keyfob and the sunroof opens too.

However, I don't think you can program it to roll up with the fob.

    Have you checked that yourself?

Yes, it definitely works both ways, up and down, with a long key press (although the sunroof doesn't open cos there ain't one).
Maybe the rolling up is a UK only thing or maybe due to it not having a sunroof ?

I concur. I'm so glad the rolling up works here.

I'd never use that if I needed to use the mechanical key.

Might be a Europe thing. I do recall our manual stating you can only roll up with the key (liability is my guess).

I'll look into that, thank you!!!

Me either, I'll just roll the windows up before I exit the car. But I like being able to roll them down wirelessly when its hot out....

    Hahahaha

I can't roll up the windows with Carista, on down. You can, however, use the physical key. Put the key in the door and turn it to the right. The windows go up, but I don't know about the sunroof.

    It's great that you can.

However, it's different on the US model and Toyota doesn't allow us to do that. I just re-read the owner's manual and went through my customization options in Carista.

You may enable opening of all windows and sunroof with the fob, but to close all you must use the physical key.

It really stinks because I need the ventilation here in this summer heat, but we get frequent afternoon thunderstorms in the summer. If I left my sunroof open, it would be nice close it with the remote from my 2nd story window. If it started raining, I'd have to run downstairs and out to my car, turn it on and then close the sunroof. My windows can stay cracked open because I have window vent shades on them.

I find the remote rolling up most useful for when I've had windows open then forget to roll them up before exiting the car.
It's really strange to watch when all the windows are going up (or down) as they seem to start moving at slightly different times, a fraction of a second out of sync with each other. What I do like is that they stop as soon as you let go of the fob button. I used to have a Ford Mondeo that had global opening and closing of the windows, but it as soon as they started moving they fully opened (or closed) no in between and one day I had a sucker attached sun screen on one of the rear windows that got pulled into the winding cable on the window motor and derailed it.
BTW the global up and down function with the key is also an option on Carista for the UK.

One good thing about the Prius (and my KIA 3 cars ago) is that you've got about 10 seconds from turning off the car to still close windows - the FORDs, you had to re-insert the key and turn the ignition on if you realised you'd forgotten. Though the FOCUS had the global open/close - and with it, if you pressed the button again, it would stop where you wanted it to, so could still have them all 12mm down.

I used Carista and confirmed that it can open everything but not close. I'm in the U.S.

I came here to say that I am frequently experiencing difficulty with rolling down my windows (and opening the sunroof) with my key fob. It's finicky.

As in, sometimes it just doesn't work. I'll press and hold... I don't get anything. Then try again... maybe it will work, maybe not. And sometimes it will open partway and stop even though I'm still pressing. But even if I just click it once, I'll hear the double beep, so I know I'm in proper range.

Anyone else experience this behavior? So unreliable.

Mine works every time. Have you tried the other "FOB"? It could be a faulty one - alternately, I'd be asking the dealer to fix it.

I had trouble with it too, until I figured out that you need to press once to unlock the car, then press and hold until they start opening as it is not immediate. I believe you'll hear a a beep just before or as it starts. So one quick click to unlock, and after that press again and hold to open. Works great for me that way. And I too cannot close up using the fob. Taking the key out is too much trouble especially since I don't need that use case often. J

I had this programmed (auto roll down) before I took delivery of my Prius and works great. After reading this forum, I bet they don't want to have potential for lawsuits with people closing the windows on someone's hand or ect...

Unfortunately I am still having trouble with it but thank you for pointing this out. Today I made sure to follow your guidance. After several attempts (and re-attempts) it just resulted in me unlocking (double-beeping) the car quite a few times in a row, annoying other people in the parking lot surely. By the time I got to about 8 feet from the car, it worked. Who knows.
