Which one are you? I am a nerd. 2016 Prius is for Nerds, Hipsters and Weirdos According to Latest Toyota Ads | The News Wheel
None of them. I am no nerd (in that definition of the term), hippie or weirdo. Just a guy who has to pay its own fuel, wants to drive a car from the 21st century, and not from the 19th, and likes a design that says something else other than whatever most other cars say (typically not much I must, or the same thing since 10-15 years). PS: I liked much better the ads with the robbers being chased by the police....
i thought toy's ad company was turning it around, but it looks like they've slipped back down into the greenie hole again. maybe the 25% downturn has them rethinking.
Interesting. Especially in contrast to the original Gen 4 and recent advertising approaches to the New Prius. I hear very much the message that "The Prius...is a Prius" where early advertising seemed aimed at a new audience, and very much sending the message that the "New" Prius was something...different and very much un-Prius like. This seems like an attempt to reach back and mend fences with what I think Toyota considers the original and "heart" of Prius owners. Still a nod to how refined and good looking the new Prius is, but very much the message that it's still unique and aimed at a unique audience. I don't have a problem with this advertising except for I don't think it works any place BUT California. Nerds, Hipsters, and Weirdo's along with all Prius Owners exist everywhere. Why specify this message as being a "California" thing? Whether a Nerd, Hipster or Weirdo, or "whatever", people who recycle, compost, care about the environment and value the ownership attributes a Prius offers, are not limited to being Californians. I don't quite get the reasoning behind classifying it all as a "California"-Prius message.
maybe they figured the bank robber thing worked well in ny, nj and chi town, but californians were insulted.
Forget the Hipsters and Yuppies, Toyota had better start over, and target the new majority in the U.S. --- LA Times, July 8th, 2015: The country's Latino population is now 55.4 million. California and Los Angeles County have the largest Latino populations of any state or county in the nation, according to the new figures.
Those ads were horrible. Most people who drive Prii in California aren't any of those three things. Just normal people who don't feel like paying much for gas.
When you can't beat the competition with your product or service............go to name calling (labeling)
yes, the author did mention the fine line between labeling your customers and insulting them. otoh, everyone who doesn't consider themselves at least one of the three may be car shopping elsewhere.
I guess maybe, kinda sorta into the nerd category? I like cool tech and develop software for a living. But I think there's more to the Gen4 than that. People love to slap labels on other people, don't they?
IMO I don't fit any of those labels. I'm an engineer, environmentalist. I bought my first Prius, gen 2 because of the technology and it's low impact on the environment. Nothing changed in 10 years. I bought the new Gen 4 for exactly the same reasons, plus the lack of issues with the first one.
