Several weeks ago I priced out one for the Touring but not ready to jump. Also considered the standard tire for the Prius at tire rack as it would be cheaper.

I think the over all diameter, according to the chart in this thread, is the close to the same for most Prius tires. As long as the lug pattern fits you would be good to go for a Prius.

I'm not in a hurry - but maybe this time next year I'll go "touring" - and a lot of the country will be well away from tyre service, flat-top trucks etc, so I'll be interested in getting a full size spare - maybe have to wrap and store in the rear footwell.

Does anyone know if a Gen 3 tyre/wheel will fit Gen 4, as I could get one from a wrecker.

I think the answer is yes and maybe the Gen2 and Corolla. Someone was researching the lug nut holes. Evidently there may be special lug nuts for the Touring/maybe!

Corolla doughnut may be the answer from a junk yard near you.

Where I'd be going, a full size spare would be the only option - here, most Corollas had a full size spare anyway.

The Touring (aka car with 17" rims) is very likely not different, at least not the pattern. On our 3rd gen I go between 17" OEM rims and 15" Corolla steel rims with snow tires.

Lug nuts could be swapped too, but look kind of funny, they stand out: OEM lug nuts use a captured washer to hold down the alloy rim, whereas with something like the temp spare (or Corolla steel rim) it's the lug nut's seat that does the holding. So OEM lug nuts will work, they have the seat, but they stick out a bit, don't look right.

I even priced a real Aluminum wheel and Tire several week ago. I believe it was $95 for a black aluminum Touring wheel, and $143 for the tire. Thought about it but that is all since the wheels would not match anyway.

Will most likely do a Corolla junk yard dog deal if I get desperate. Even thought about just buying an extra tire only and have the tow truck install it if needed. In addition, I bet the dealer does not stock my OEM tire. That would mean a long term spare or carry a OEM tire in the back.

Road trips are the problem as when I am at home I can wait for a tire from Tirerack.

We will see what happens when 3 years is up.

Who knows= might still be driving Miss Daisy.

I'd be surprised if the tow truck driver would have equipment. If it was 45 years ago, I'd have gear in the car and be able to put a new tyre and tube on myself - but that isn't going to happen with today's tyres and rims.

Not a lot of space in the trunk also.

Rally like the back exterior continental spare someone put on a Gen3.

    You're overthinking.

    1. You don't buy an aluminum wheel with an expensive tire. It's a spare, it's temporary. You buy a cheap steel rim with cheap tires as I posted. Used Prius rims and tires go for around $400 a set. if you can find 3 other people to buy a 1, that's $100. Don't spend more than that.
    2. It's unlikely tow trucks drivers install tires on the side of the road. Don't buy just a the tire.
    3. You own a Prius, not a Ferrari. Prius tire sizes are plentiful everywhere. You don't have to go to the dealer.
    4. The free tow takes you to the dealer, if you're going to rely on that, then you may have trouble.
    5. Borrow the spare from daughters 2011 when you go on a road trip or when you need it. Or borrow from a friend or coworker who owns a Prius. If a friend asks me to borrow my spare tire because he got a flat, I would not hesitate to give it to him. I don't like relying on friends for something like this so I'd likely just pay the tow driver to tow just about anywhere and buy another tire.

Having driven without a spare for 4 years, I've realized this no spare issue is only a big deal to single vehicle homes. If you have another car in your household, you have a lot more options.

I am getting one next week. 143.00 plus shipping . Problem solved. I used the regular liquid on my 2012 Prius and never had a problem with the sensor. I had the spare but only used once. Even with the Roadside Assitance. You need to know area where you are . They take for ever. Agreed with your comment.

Long trips make this problematic for me and only me and does not apply to anyone else in the universe.
And no but it will be ok anyway.:ROFLMAO: I only use OEM MIJ tires which are very specific for the Touring and I will always have a matched set on each axle/ mirror pairs if possible. A spare could be anything from a junk yard. But I only run long term matched pairs that are identical in every respect.

So cheap, is a loyal junk yard dog. Long term, maybe a spare OEM/MIJ tire for a 2016 Touring.

Those of you with non-touring tires have an easier solution to all of this.

My brain is incapable of overthinking.:ROFLMAO::cry:
