Duct tape origins came from the evolution of military grade "500 MPH" tape. It was used to repair just about anything that sustained a rip or tear...In particular, fabric covered wings and control surfaces. Just goes to show you how long the stuff has been around. Fabric wings, you say!?!?!?
I kinda lived in our crawl space for a couple of months, doing my mastic and tape and insulate thing. Our kids would come over, say "where's dad?", then "oh yeah". The state of it was unbelievably shoddy, Coquitlam's house construction reg's were pure shite in the '80's.
Love the "Mythbusters" duct tape episodes, I believe there were two of them. Stranded on a deserted island with unlimited duct tape, and a duct tape sailboat, among other things.
Better yet, duct tape saved the Apollo 13 astronauts bacon! A little known fact that, if they hadn't had duct tape on board, they would be floating around in space for eternity... Dead of course.
