Can anybody tell me what happens when you get below the last fuel bar?

Is there a reserve light, or some kind of warning?

I'm getting close to a half of the last bar (for the first time ever)... wondering if it's time?

You will run out of gas! The half a pip thing, that would be an indication to find a Gas Station, soon! Running the tank dry is embarrassing, and yes if you publicly admit it, we will laugh at you!
Take the initiative, don't wait for the car to tell you what to do, you da boss, get some gas, NOW!

The light comes on when there is about 25 to 30 miles left to "0" on your Distance to Empty (DTE). The MFD asks you if you want help finding a gas station. Then if and when you get to "0" on the DTE the trip meters in the odometer display and the MFD will read "----".
I have found that there is at least a gallon of usable gas remaining in the tank when "0" is reached, but YMMV.

Extra Class, I started with Advanced, but it's my lifetime call!
Now that I have stepped up to BEV, it fits nicely!

    Now, get some gas!

This is a good description: So this is what happens when you run out of gas | PriusChat

BTW, I deliberately ran out of gas in both our 2003 and 2010 Prius. Thankfully it sounds like the 2016 model no longer goes 'silent' when it runs out of gas.

The Gen2 was nearly British in its mastery of understatement. While the dash lit up quite brightly the MFD simply said, "Problem".

Since I hate fueling up, I wait until the last bar is actually blinking, THEN I go fill up (most I've added is 9 gallons I think)

So the last bar will eventually blink? I think I'll wait to see that!

My trip OD says I have 70 miles until empty.

that should be another gallon and then there is a reserve beyond that. gen 3 is 2 more gallons.

A warning icon (gas pump) starts flashing below the left section of the fuel gauge. According to the manual (pg. 657), you have about 1.7 gallons left.

The one time I saw it, my files left to refuel was under fifty. Since I am getting over 50 mi.gal, I guess the 'Miles left' number is very conservative. I filled up soon after the icon showed up, so I don't know how close I really was.

I guess I'm not going to see that (this tank). I have to re-fuel today for a trip downtown tomorrow morning.

Good to know the exact specifics. Reading "the manual" - what a concept! (y)

Alright... I broke down and filled up my first tank today. Ohhh - that was painful spending $ on gas.

Can anybody explain how you enter the Gas Price?

I thought a message would popup asking me if I wanted to enter the price after filling up?

I've read the manual and it's so unclear. The only thing I could find was in Meter Customize settings. "Eco Savings"---> "Gasoline Price" (and I entered the price). That doesn't seem to change any of the Eco Savings display info. What am I doing wrong? What am I not understanding?

This is the worse part of the manual I've encountered yet.

    Thanks!

    1. turn off the car before refueling (and opening refueling door)
    2. refuel
    3. Be ready to press the right steering wheel select button, and start the car.
    4. Watch the MID for question asking if you want to enter the fuel price
    5. Immediately press right select button
    6. use right side left/right/up/down to set price
    7. press right side back button
If you miss the prompt screen the way you mention is the other way to enter the price.
