I have a 2008 Prius with 110k miles. I admittedly know little about cars so any advice is appreciated. I had my engine replaced by the dealer July 2015 which was rebuilt and paid for by the warranty. This week my car started making noises and I brought it into the dealer, where I always have my maintainence done. After three 3 days, the codes came up that the transaxle needed to be replaced
I would expect the rebuilt engine to be covered by a 12 month warranty. Was it just the ICE that was rebuilt?
The engine is still under warranty. I don't have the paperwork on the engine easily accessible at the moment, but what they told me was the short block needed to be replaced. It was actually out of warranty at the time, but since there was documentation that there was traces on the engine burning oil, the warranty covered it. I'm sure this has to deal with the Corolla lawsuit about the same issue. This all is occurring with the same dealer.
I can't expand, just shouldn't happen to a car with so few miles. And the coincidence after repair....
The transaxle may be covered under warranty as well, If is throwing a HV leak code Toyota extended the warranty to 10 year, 150,000 miles for this particular transaxle failure. It took some work (I had to show service writer screen shots of my techstream and the tsb) but last summer I had a transaxle replaced on a 2007 Prius with 102,000 miles.
Was this the California Emission warranty? I found the tsb from Toyota saying they cover my code. Their are specific three number info codes that say are needed for the replacement.
The TSB you found is correct, The key is the dealer needs to be able to see the specific codes mentioned in the TSB. When I was looking at the dealership service history of my 2007 Prius on myToyota.com I noticed three other parties had my vehicle diagnosed at three different dealerships and the three dealerships all quoted a transaxle replacement with no extended warranty assistance.
