    Hi guys,

I'm interested in purchasing a prius very soon. I'm thinking about the Prius 4 with the advanced technology package. I also thought about the prius 4 touring, but really and the moonroof. Anyways, I read how with the when using parking assistance, the rear back up camera and etc, the car makes beeping noises. Doesn't this get annoying after a while? Is there a way to shut it off? Also... does the navigation only work when in park? Specifically, what does not work when not in park?

    Thanks!

Make setting the reverse beep to once a condition of sale, that the salesman agrees to in writing, BEFORE you buy.

In my two Priuses, neither a 2016, you cannot enter destinations while moving, but you do not have to be in Park.

what do you mean by this? "Make setting the reverse beep to once a condition of sale, that the salesman agrees to in writing, BEFORE you buy."

What do you mean by setting the reverse beep?

The reverse beep is configurable. The default is a continuous beeping. It can be set to a single beep when reverse is selected. The dealer can do this or you can do it with the Carista app/odb (approx $60).

There are other settings that can be changed if you got the Carista route.

Great, thanks! Do the touring modeling drive better than the non-touring models? The only reason I wouldn't get the four touring i because of the moonroof!

Touring will be less comfortable, but better handling. It will have 3 to 5 less MPGs, as the bigger wheels weigh more and wider tires have more resistance.

Here is the 2016 manual http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om-s/OM47A29U/pdf/OM47A29U.pdf
User customization begins on Page 752, Reverse beep is on Page 756, but you want to read all of these as the dealer can configure the car as you specify BEFORE you buy it. (Afterwards, they may charge you)

Thank you so much for this, so helpful! What do you mean by less comfortable? The seats are not comfortable? Better handling meaning better on turns and smoother overall?

The touring has larger aluminum wheels with short tires, while the non-touring has taller rubber tires on smaller wheels.

Since rubber flexes more than aluminum, the non-touring will be less harsh on bumps. Since aluminum flexes less than rubber, the touring will corner better.

Your choice of wheels and tires will not effect the seats themselves, just the forces transmitted to the seats. (Unless you fancy racing in a Prius, bigger wheels are just cosmetic)

As with all cars, good ride and good handling are opposite choices.

It gets annoying as hell. Thus spent the funds and bought a Carista and this allowed me to turn of the beeping nastiness.

Slight qualification - you can set a destination using voice commands while moving.

What else can you configure with it? I was thinking of buying one as well (or borrowing one from someone in my area, hint hint if there are nay lurkers) but for $60 I may see if I can get the dealer to handle it for me at no cost.

A list of configurable settings is in your owner's manual on page 753 (or there about).

Those are the same things you can change with the carista app? I was hoping there might be something more magical that you could control.

Question: Why do those beeps bother you guys and gals so much???

It's not like you are backing up for 2 miles or something! I hear maybe four(?) beeps when reversing into my driveway. BFD! You can't handle that?! OMG! (as you young folks like to say.)

And if you just attach your seat belt, first thing when entering your car, you won't hear any beeps at all! :)

Good Lord! (that's what us older folks say.) There are bigger fish to fry!. Don't worry about a few measly beeps. :D

We don't have Parking Assistance offered on models in Australia for some reason which TOYOTA won't comment on.

But my observation of Automatic Parking and experience with Parking Sensors on a Ford was that they were part of the system - they beeped with greater frequency the closer you were to hitting something. Not a bad thing in my estimation.

Check out this YouTube of a Focus using AutoPark - listen for the beeps - it wouldn't really work as well without beeps:

The sensors beeping is what I've seen on other cars with either sensors or Auto Park - but that continual beeping with just reverse gear selected is crazy - or would drive you crazy.

Good Lord! That beeping is overkill.

It's THE reason I prefer backup cameras over parking sensors.

Thank goodness you can turn down the volume of the parking sensors (or turn them off).

I must admit to everyone -- I still have not used my automatic Parking control! I'm afraid to!:(

I think what I will do is go to the dealership some Saturday and ask them to show me how it works.
