Hello, new to the forums. I'm in the market for a 2016 Prius Four with the ATP and PCP (great acronym). The pictures my local dealer has online have these long horizontal lines halfway down the doors. What the heck are they? I don't see them in other 2016 Prius pictures, and I'm not terribly keen on them. Can't make it in to see the car in person till the weekend, so I figured I'd ask around here. Thanks!
Body side moldings. I think they're supposed to function like bumpers in parking lots where idiots will door ding you. I'm not convinced they would do much good as most people drive SUVs with doors higher than that. I also don't like how they look. Toyota Prius Interior & Exterior Accessories
I have them on my car and I like them but based on that picture, I wouldn't like them either. I'd say go look at it in person.
My own preference is not to have them, I think they spoil the clean lines of the car, but that's only my opinion and each to his own. I have a 3 year toyota smart repair insurance that covers any door dings, scratches and scuffs, without having to claim on my main insurance, so i don't need them.
I would love something like this, however, is it offered in the states? Definitely something I haven't heard of and am pretty sure they'd offer it since I live in an urban environment
They are on the accessories page of Toyota's Build a Prius. Also, you can order them from your dealers parts counter.
iammegiam was asking about the Toyota door ding insurance product that kithmo has purchased in the UK, not the body side moldings. And I actually think the body side moldings break up the side visually in a pleasing way, at least on Hypersonic Red, so I specifically sought them out. Good news is, there were only two Hypersonic Red Threes without ATP close to me, and the closest one had them.
