Hi all, This is my first post in PriusChat... As a long time VW TDI owner, and as VW settlement comes close, I am considering a 2016 Prius, very seriously. I have done a lot of research (including in this forum), and almost certain I want to get a Prius Three with Advanced Technology Package. Currently Toyota is running a 6yr 0Apr promotion on Prius and it ends in a few days --- 05/31. This puts me in a difficult position -- it's better for me to wait for the settlement details to come out, but I want to take advantage of the promotion as well. Many auto manufacturers run promotions and they keep extending them. How is toyota? Is this 5/31 deadline and hard deadline with no chance of extension? Thanks,
welcome! sometimes yes, sometimes no. but i'll tell you this, if gas prices stay low, the deals are just going to keep getting better as supply increases. all the best!
This same set of promotions was active and expired at the end of April, only to be renewed in May. As soon as market demand warrants, they'll drop it and likely don't want to go more than a month past such a market shift. I can't tell the future any better than you, but I'm counting on a June renewal of the promo terms, just as it was renewed for May.
Depends on how long you want to wait. The deal is 0% for 5 years or $1000 rebate. If you wait a few months you probably will get both.
The current offer is a national deal. If the current deal ends there will be some sort of other regional deal. Also these offers differ by regions and usually rotate through regions.
I was in a simular position... but in my case I didn't want to loose the possibility of the $1,000 Cash Back going away. It could stay the same in June, or drop to $500... or completely go away. I figured with new Prius sales on the rise (in my area) and people warming up to the new design... I don't think gas prices factor into it that much these days. With a little slow down in production since the earthquake in Japan... it's a supply and demand game. So I went to for this week. I didn't want to take a chance on loosing the $1,000 offer. If it stays the same... fine... but one thing is for certain - it will not get any better than a grand cash back offer now. I don't see it going up... so ya gotta strike while the iron's hot! Good luck!!
Thanks for all the replies. I figured in Houston, with oil price being so low, I can afford waiting for another couple of months
Oh man I was planning on buying late next week. I hope they have a new promo. My lease transfer isn't complete yet on my current car so I can't buy til that's done.
The answer to your question is a personal one. This is what I tell my friends. The right time to buy something is when you can afford it. Hopefully this puts a smile on your face? Wish you all the best!!
I'm in the same boat as you with a 2011 golf tdi with nearly 120k. I went ahead and ordered a 4 with atp and pcp, and will just have to do payments until settlement comes in. Supposed to be announced on 6/21. Likely to be some time after that for customer actual turn in. My dealer expects another promo this summer but that might just be sales talk. J
I would just sell the VW and get something else from a respectable company (Toyota Prius - actually I ask myself if any company these days is really respectable - every day there are news of cheating, etc etc. - all in the name of glorious sanctified profit at all costs to satisfy "investors" (aka speculators)). I wouldn't wait any settlement and get rid of a car that was purposefully built and sold to cheat tests, consumers, the public and investors. All well known to all managers, engineers and so on. I am glad the EPA exposed this scandal. I am glad EPA seems less controlled from the German car lobbies.
Your last comment just chilled me. VW scandal is just a can of worms exposed, what about the stones that are not turned??? But that would be just anther discussion, a political one.....
So your advice is to sell the car to another driver who will keep the vehicle on the road at 40 times the allowable emissions instead of waiting for VW to purchase the vehicle and remove it from the road. And the buy back will be at the retail value in September 2015 before the cheating was exposed, plus a cash penalty? Following your advice, VW would not be penalized for cheating, the customer would lose thousands due to the devaluation of their vehicle after the cheating scandal, and the vehicle would remain on the road. Doesn't sound like good advice to me. Note that the EPA and VW have already agreed to the terms of the settlement and federal court has accepted those terms on 4/21/16. The next court appearance on 6/21 is for VW to outline how customers will be informed of their choice to sell back their car, and how much cash on top of the buy back will be offered. Leaked information indicates it will be retail value of car in September of 2015 plus $5,000. I can sell my VW right now for 10k, as there are those out there looking to purchase these vehicles and don't care about how much they contribute to pollution. Or, I can wait and likely get around 17k selling my car back to VW. I make 7k more to purchase my new 2016 Prius, and the car is removed from the road, at least in the US. Sounds like a simple choice to me. J
Sorry, I didn't know the terms of the settlement in that detail. If that's the case, wait to get your money back, and then get a Prius.
These promotions are common around holiday weekends and usually are good for a couple of weeks at least. If you don't get the deal done by 5/31, there's the 4th of July weekend coming up is just over a month. I'd bet on there being another promotion for this weekend.
No problem, and yes I'm not going back to VW, looking forward to my contribution to cleaner air with a new Prius. Tnx, J good to know, forgot about July 4, hoping my new 4 comes in around that time, but likely will be later in July . . . J
Yes, woo hoo! Saw that yesterday, now just praying it arrives by 7/5 - might be doubtful as they still have not provided delivery date. J
