Shouldn't this thread be compare Chevy Bolt to Tesla model 3 to Toyota......

 

why? toyota doesn't have anyone knocking on their door asking them to build a bev, except hill. and when he knocks, no one answers. i think he's starting to peek through the curtains though.

 

I started this thread more like to explore the options us "green" folks have today and in the near feature (2017 -?) than making an actual Bolt to Tesla 3 comparison. (How does one type three horizontal lines instead of the number 3???) But the contribution was interesting and 'civil'. Good stuff!

Back to my interest. I test drove a Hyundai Sonata Hybrid (Limited) version today. I was impressed. Nice car, nicely appointed, the ride is fantastic. On the negative side, I found the lag between pressing the accelerator and 'action' from the drive train (I guess about a second) was annoying. My Prius, and our iMiEV both react instantly, as one would expect from an electric drive. At least within their limits. The Sonata has plenty of power but it is delayed. Price wise it was at the upper edge what I am willing to spend on a car. The base Sonata has no 6-/40 rear seat split/down. (Neither has the plug-in version!) The Volt, as a result of the Govt. Rebate program, is a better deal dollar wise. This advantage is magnified by Env. Canada's calculations of yearly fuel costs and CO2 emission. Both favor the Volt.

Make sure it's charged (duh) and put it in sport mode but not L gear. Drive it around for a while and experience EV power. Try to contain the grins in front of the sales droid. Then park it for a bit (look under the hood or something to pass some time), get back in and put in sport & L gear and continue the test drive. Now you'll experience what one pedal driving is like. It will feel disconcerting at first because you'll let off the accelerator too soon but if you get to drive it long enough you'll see how cool it is.

 

Was that delay comparable to an ICE model? The Sonata's motor's output still has to go through a regular transmission before reaching the wheels vs. the near direct path on the Prius.

Well, I started this thread, so I might as well complete it.
After much consideration, including a test drive of a Volt, I decided to stay with Toyota and bought a Gen 4 (2016) Prius. I guess I had a hard time to overcome my 'ingrained' distrust of GM. Even though I was impressed with the Volt and there is probably nothing wrong with that car.
I picked the Base Model (Canadian version!) with the available upgrade package (TSS-P) for the base package.

I guess I will have to update the picture.

Tomorrow I will get my new wheels. I will keep you posted about likes and otherwise from time to time.

Actually, yes. Under Prius hading there are subsections for Gen 2, Gen 3 but still no Gen 4. I think the site admin should set it up and pull all Gen 4 items into this folder.

welp. it looks like joe biden, gm and other auto legacy manufacturers are forcing me into a tesla.

i cannot get a new bolt, used bolts are more expensive than a new base tesla model 3.

toyota has ruined the prius, and leaf are overpriced, along with niro and ionique.

and while a luxury sedan is not really my style, a model 3 at 31kafter tax credits is a great deal for an amazing vehicle.

what do i need to connect my j1772 the the tesla plug?

 

Tesla has an adapter to allow a J1772 plug to connect to a Tesla.
When we bought our last one, it was part of the purchase. I am not sure if it still is.
